Of course they can. This is an era where you can make a console with jack fucking shit for games at launch through the first year and sell millions of units. All they need to do is market properly and they're fine. They've already got the benefit of being a retro company, by which I mean dumbass normalfags will eat it up for their gamer cred like they always do.

The best thing they could do outside of that is make games that actually focus on gameplay. There's only one console that really, truly does this right now, so there's plenty of space for them to try it and the competition would keep Nintendo humble. 1) the exclusives that will get people to buy your machine, and
2) the horsepower necessary to run AAA third party games. These will keep interest high and move consoles in between exclusive releases.

The only reason Nintendo can survive without (2) is because they push out more exclusives each year than should even be possible. And even then Sony and Microsoft leave them in the dust every generation.
