Honestly, Fallout 3 is a decent beginner Fallout game. New Vegas is hands down better, but the thing about playing that first is that it's like why would you go back to 3 after? Fallout 3 is a competently enjoyable game.

I'd also say that you miss out on less playing FO3 on console. It feels more suited for it.
