I think the reason Silent Hill works so well is because it isn't really out of place in the horror genre. I mean the shit that happens isn't so out there compared to the rest.

Other video game movies have the problem that they'll be compared to mainstream action films, or martial arts films, or monster movies etc. Horror has always been hit and miss.

This movie wasn't really that good though. I enjoyed it as a fan of the games, but it wasn't really that good either.

But I did love the end, where they formed Queen Sheba, had her fight Jubileus in an extended fight, and then had her fire that giant gun. That was unexpected and very cool. I would've preferred that to the final boss of the actual game, which was already amazing imo.

I don't think it was ever featured in any MK game, probably because of how cheesy it is. Ironically enough, the MK devs couldn't help but make cheesy games all the way through MK:Armageddon.

It actually stays true enough to the premise, story, and setting of the game it's from, it isn't full of itself, the fights were pretty good, the music was great, and it actually borrowed elements from the game series that weren't in the first game to make the story more cohesive instead of a mess.
