I dunno anon. I have fallen into a pit where i press out the same 5-6 moves over and over until i potentially win. I can't bother with going into training more and learn some combos so i just focus on movement, sweeps and grabs.
I'm up at the Master rank now, but thats mostly because people can't into blocking lows apparently. I can't really progress much further than this without learning some new tactics tho.
I play dragunov. Holding the stick back while you press out 2,1,3 is really does the trick.

doing the same 5 moves and focusing on movement is literally what good players do. just make sure you pick the right moves, and not the meme stuff like snake edges and 10-hit strings.

for instance kazumi doesn't need much more than df1, ff4, WS44, and a dickjab. focus only on that along with your big punish combos, but with really good movement, and you can win.

Playing on a x360 controller, should I use the shitty dpad or the stick?
I had more luck using dpad in MKX but this time around stick looks pretty okay, especially for the back-forward moves.

Never use the dpad, especially for a 360 controller, that's just inviting agony. MKX doesn't use any complicated inputs so it's fine, but Tekken has tons of diagonals and QCF that a 360 dpad just can't handle.

Every character I try plays slow as molasses and the other guy is whipping around me at Sanic speed that I can't even get the most basic jab to hit. There's like a 0.2 millisecond window where he's not attacking and by the time I realize it and press my jab he's already into his next combo and I'm on the floor. Fucking 2 hours online and I only won one match.

It's not a quarter circle. If you're getting a sway as Brian that means you're doing a quarter circle when it should really be more like a 1/8th circle. Practice doing d/b and releasing it for a bit with input display on. Make sure you can do it so that d never appears in the input display.

Tekken 7 is the first time I'm playing online and trying to get into the game. I memorize the combos, do a good job in practice, even Treasure Battle. Go online and I go full retard and forget everything I ever knew. Also can't low guard/parry for shit. I guard sometimes but not always and opponents easily exploit it.

I know jack shit combos with JACK 7(just mostly simple 3 hit ones off his launcher)yet i'm able to somehow win by just mostly rocket punching my way to victory(b+2, d+2) and getting them with counterhits with the odd Debugger and/or tracking move and safe mids like ff+1. In essence i'm basically playing this game almost like SF2 Super Turbo. This has continued until Avenger rank.

I've mained Nina since tekken 3 and the game just gets more juggle heavy sas the yaears go by.

Nina just isnt as juggle heavy as the new characters so she a lot more technical and footsie based now, but man she fucks people up hard.

Gotta be careful of thos faster characters though, but its funny when you screw up their starting juggle they have no idea what to do anymore.

Anyone who's been exposed to more technical, more dynamic fighting games will quickly pass on tekken. Other top fighters, namely Street Fighter, KoF and MK/Injustice have advanced impressively in their latest installments; but the relic that is tekken just can't seem to evolve, furthermore many combos can be done simply by hitting 1-button, and the nearly "instant-kill" rage art moves are just laughably broken. Instead of a supplying a proper fighting engine, matches in T7 seem to rely heavily on "who can get their rage move off first". So many elements of the gameplay don't even require any sort of skill. In my book, slow motion over and over again also gets old very quickly. And in the end, it's more of a novelty or gimmick rather than an actual, thought-out fighting game mechanic. But hey, the casual crowd will be pleased!

If you want something a little more "button-masher-friendly," tekken might be your cup of tea.... Key word, might.
