Not got a 3DS? MH4 is a great starting point. 3U tries to frontload the swimming aspect a bit too much.

Actually, to add to >>380780150 , bring patience. You're probably not going to have fun until you get past the tutorial. The biggest barrier to getting into it is learning all of the neuances. It's probably going to be slower than you expect, if you try to push it, it will push back and fuck your shit up.

Get past that, and into the meat of the game (Gathering quests are for chilling while listening to other stuff, and are the prep for the big hunt), and you're going to have a lot of fun.

An awesome game, I played the whole thing to completion solo and enjoyed it all the way through.

If you got anyone to play with you'll have even more fun, I used to play freedom unite on psp back in the day with friends and they are some of my happiest gaming memories.

Underwatter combat depends heavily on the weapon, it is great with Lance since it basically becomes dogfighting, but don't even pretend like the Ranged weapons don't get screwed.

Ranged was absolutely broken underwater with Normal 3 shots. Diablos HBG could kill Goldbeard Caedeus in like 3 minutes without even using major buff setups and just siege mode Normal 3.

both perform just fine. Longsword's moveset changes a bit so you'll have to adjust. Greatsword is the exact same as on land, and sometimes even easier because of the way you can abuse verticality underwater

and sometimes harder depending on the monster. i did solo G rank village and online quests in FU, 3U, and 4U. and am working on XX now.

multiplayer hunts are pretty fun though if you have decent enough players. have made a lot of friend through 4U

keep in mind nobody except a few western websites talks about this series as if it's some hardcore franchise for mature adults. the majority of people buying these games are kids and businessmen playing on their commutes in short bursts

so far not enough has been shown of Worlds for any reasonable person to be either for or against it. and 3U is plenty good enough to use as an entry to the series
