There might actually be combat since the demo ends right when the player possesses the demon. Other than that I'm not really impressed. The visuals and sound design are nice, but the gameplay looks like more Amnesia/Outlast shit overall.

Anon if you are a developer of some kind let me give you feedback.

The Visuals are top dollar. The theme is great. I don't think many would dispute that.

But the problem with it like many western productions now is: Its all Flash and no substance.

You have taken the foundations of Amnesia/Survival Horror and put your own new cover over it.

If its not too late in production, if you really want this to be a smash and to stand out, you need to add your own unique mechanical spin on it. Add some extra functionality and interactivity other games have not yet done.

Put some creativity and more effort into its gameplay rather than focus on just the theme.

The danger of not doing this is not standing out from the crowd i.e the survival horror market.

You're in hell, you got smash hit visuals. Ok. But you're still "Just another survival horror" to the masses. You need some more depth and substance if you want this to stand out.

I guess legendary hero Captain Obvious wasn't around when this game was being developed or he might've pointed out that when all you do is confront a player with unending violence and gore it becomes routine. Any routine, especially in a game, becomes boring because if nothing else you get desensitized to it by continued exposure. Even the funniest joke in the world gets old if you've heard it 100 times and the same goes for horror.

As for original, this game is basically just Amnesia in Hell. But the big difference is that Amnesia had pacing and subtlety and knew that the most effective way to scare someone is to lull them into a false sense of security with some periods where there aren't any monsters or scary stuff, and only when they've dropped their guard do you throw a corpse or a shambling horror at them. That way the player starts to dread just the idea of continued progress, because mentally they'll always be on edge. That's what horror is. If a game is just all gore all the time constantly trying to one up itself in the edginess department, it'll initially be scary but by the end of the game it'll probably be laughable.

The horror comes from anxietey of not knowing where an enemy is or if he knows where you are and the tenseness of sneaking by one once you do encounter it. Then the chaotic payoff is if you ARE found and you now have to scramble away without being caught. Like I said before, this only diminshes if it's so scripted you can just plan around the AI's path or if there's only one direction to run off too.

Also I love Silent Hill, but don't pretend it wasn't easy as fuck to kill practically every monster with just a pocket knife if you were competent enough.

The problem with that is that if it's run away or be caught by the monster and die, it eventually loses its horror edge and just becomes a chore of memorizing enemy patterns so you can move on to the next area with the next monster to do the same thing. The best way to do it is to have a way to fight back that's not entirely effective or will take a shitton of effort/resources to do. This is why Alien Isolation and RE3 Nemesis are great on their higher difficulties.

My problem with Agony is it doesn't feel original. Yes the monsters and the setting looks amazing and there is much love put into those small details but it's just like the old italian books depicting hell.

Every time a horror game tries to pull a Dante on me, it just seems silly. Meat and bones and screams of eternal torture and flames with ash, I just don't know dude. I'll definitely check it out because the mechanics seems interesting enough but I am still wary of it.
