The devs don't even seem to know quite what they want the game to be, let alone if it will end up good or nor. Ancel keeps swinging wildly back and forth from saying it's going to be a scripted story-focused single player adventure game to a multiplayer-centric procedurally generated space exploration sim a la No Man's Sky. No one can really pin down quite what he's saying the game's going to be, and whenever they try he keeps responding with stuff like "it's going to be a huge experience", or starts talking about random non-game-related fluff like real world ethnic diversity in a game full of animal people, or the beauty of sunsets(?).

Someone finally pegged him down and he admitted they were at "day zero" of development, which basically means all they have is that zany CG trailer, a barebones tech demo, and some loose ideas of what it might end up being like. Possibly.

If it actually does end up happening, we're not going to be seeing it until like 2020 at the earliest. And that's a big "if" because Vivendi might buy Ubisoft and force the company to finally go full-on EA/Activision like they've been threatening to do for a few years now, in which case it's a strong possibility that BG&E2 gets cancelled and Ancel gets shitcanned to go do kickstarter indie games or whatever.

It'll be the No Man's Sky 2 that nobody wanted, this time with sassy black chicks and monkeys that can't shut up.
