They have boosts that give increase in dropped items to you and your team and they stack. So if you don't have one of these boosts people won't even invite you.

I just don't think a mh type game works as f2p. Everything they can put behind microtransactions seems like heresy to me. Crafting armors is 50% of the game and they are going to put the cooler ones behind payments.
