I fucking loved The 3rd. For a supposedly optional game, it had a lot of story that is relevant in Crossbell and Coldsteel. When i started it, i was honestly a little disappointed that you couldn't run around Liberl and you were stuck in 'dungeons', but i grew to like the format because it was something different. I enjoyed the character sidestories and the story about the Salt Pale was nuts. Kevin is also a great protagonist. The music is amazing.

What reason does he have to back Osborne? Joining them would give him the allies and power he'd need to oppose him directly. And if Sharon is any indication you can pretty much do whatever you want as an Enforcer.

He tried being a 3rd side and all that got was Osborne stronger, his friend dead, and his other friends sent away, and him being trapped in Osborne's grip. All because he was too idealistic to play ball with the noble alliance for awhile, then stop Cayenne if he went too far.

He's probably regretting he didn't take that offer. If he did Crow might still be alive, and he wouldn't have taken out most of the allies that would have been useful when Osborne resurfaced.

While Anelace's door concludes her story of finding the reason to continue living the way of the blade well enough, I think Falcom realized they might have slipped up in not being able to develop the 8 leaves style a bit through a promising youth's eyes. Anelace herself doesn't seem to specialize in or even utilize any of the forms it teaches so they probably shifted most of the attention to Rean ontop of all the fucking issues he has in CS1-2. The little shit utilized nearly all of the known forms like Gale, Autumn Leaf Cutter, Morning Moon, Void, and unarmed. Aidios knows how much he's put into practice by CS3 too.

Ouroboros' motives and actions so far in the series don't match Rean's personality in the slightest. Sharon is also highly likely to going to have to choose between her job as an enforcer or her loyalties to Reinford sooner or later and she's most likely going to pick the latter. It also doesn't help that every character who left Ouroboros so far were portrayed to be better off for doing so.

Rean might be a downer but he's not so desperate that he'd betray all of his friends. The only thing that could give them cause to side with Ouroboros would be to form a temporary truce to oust Osborne and then after that they get back to fighting each other as normal.

I really like the standard "hero's journey" format of FC. SC and 3rd were interesting, but particularly 3rd felt like the writers just were at a loss for what to do with the series and Falcom just said, "I don't care just pump out something." There were so many missed opportunities and even though each game is a continuation of the story it doesn't feel like SC or 3rd was really planned out the way a good novel series would be.

I also don't really like starting from level 50 or 90. I really like working my way up from level 1 each game even though it doesn't make sense.

Maybe it's because FC was my first Trails game. I still liked all three through.
