Thoughts on Darkest Dungeon?
Frustrating and repetitive RNG torture experiment
>>380745486
DD had potential.
My favourite roguelike
>>380745486
Too long for how simple it is.
Got bored when I got to the darkest dungeon and never played again
You can break it
Fun at start, but becomes too grindy and boring as it goes on.
>>380746445
Hello re.ddit
Good art
Gooad atmosphere
Shit everything else. Incredibly boring and drawn out grinding simulator.
>>380747005
>Using teenage profanity dodging to avoid spam filter
Woah look at this tough cookie, surely he's not massively out of place here!
It really is summer isn't it?
>>380745486
My favorite game at the price tag. I dont get bored easy i am more intrested to see how my heroes will turn out rather than the game. I kinda created my own little universe inside my head and found it is alot more enjoyable like that. Like i know it is pretty autistic but when somebody fails the insanity check and become a leader type i feel pretty good and a little emotional. If you like tabletop games you most likely have the creativity and a dash of autism to play this game.
I wanna fuck plague doctor
Very interesting combat system i really want to be used in JRPGs.
But by itself the game is beyond repetitive and had some glaring issues like food system being a random as fuck garbage though i've heard they made a revamp.

>>380746136
>>380746445
>>380747272
These really
If you didn't have to fight the same area boss 3 times for every difficulty I think it'd be better, otherwise it's artificially padded for length as well as difficulty by making upgrades so ridiculously expensive. By the end of the game you're just grinding to get a party to max gear and skills just so they even have a CHANCE of surviving the Darkest Dungeon
its a fun 1-d roguelike with good atmosphere
>many will fall in the face of chaos, but not this one
>not today
The DLC looks like shit.
>considerers itself "hard"
>by "hard" it means you have to use the same cookie cutter party/skill sequence every time to not get raped and grind eveything again
100% style over substance. But damn, the style is good.
>>380748403
This is EXACTLY why I came to this thread.
Do go on, anon.
Funner to talk about than actually play.
>>380750110
But you're much better off building parties specifically outfitted for the dungeon they're doing.
Plague Doctor is OP af but she's useless in the Weald, for instance.
Excellent design and atmosphere.
Non-existant writting that attempts to exist and fails at it.
Horrible, frustrating gameplay. Not the kind that makes you push harder. But the kind that just makes you go "oh well, that was a waste of everyone's time."
Repetitive, and not in the good sense either.
Good for about one run of each dungeon, then basically just a spreadsheet simulator there on as nothing changes and the procedural generation is meaningless.
good artstyle and design, awful gameplay
its far too grindy and tedious to justify more than one run
it feels like a pay-to-win game with all the artifacts you have to find to upgrade anything, ridiculously stacked rng, and inflated gold price on everything past tier 2
except you cant buy the real money currency
not to mention the fact that a solid 2/3rds of the game is literally copy-pasted filler, why the fuck do you have to kill the same boss 3 times
>>380750590
>pd
>worthless in weald
>>380750590
Nah, it's about how you build her. If you throw her bleed move in, along with stun, DOT removal, and buff, she's a good support there
It was a frustrating grind. Did the new "shorter" mode fix it?
>>380750750
>>380750827
>>pd
>>worthless in weald
Different anon, I think we can agree at least 'less useful or there's a better use of their party slot.
>>380750750
I've started a new run and gold is rather plentiful, it's heirlooms you have to grind for until your dick falls off.
>>380751019
not really
pd is basically required in every party setup, vapors and medicine are far too useful to give up
>>380750864
Radiant mode is indeed shorter but there's a couple of changes that make it more akin to EZ difficulty than to 'Quick Mode'.
Enemy stats are the same, but 80+ light gives bigger party bonuses, there's no random hunger mechanic and characters can do Darkest Dungeon more than once albiet at penalties.
I played safe and slowly upgraded everything in my village to max. Then after winning It was too frustrating to have to upgrade everything again in ng+

>have to upgrade everything again
wat. oh hell no.
>>380752740
Well that's the shittiest character they could have possibly made out of this expansion.
Good friggin' riddance.
>>380753406
Let's hear your ideas.
I liked it. Great game. Good design, art and atmosphere
it's not THAT grindy.
>>380753453
Renegade vampire. Vampire hunter. Blood mage, if unwanting to delve further into the vampire subject. A proper diabologist. Anything delving further into eldritch potential, heck even a demon/monster tamer to go along with.
Just about anything seems less dull than yet another masochistic religious figure.
>>380754397
>Renegade vampire
All classes can be a vampire now.
>Vampire hunter
Miniboss.
>Blood mage
Doesn't fit the Lovecraftian theme.
>A proper diabologist
Occultist fills that roll already.
>>380755050
And both crusader and clerics fill the roll of possibly enraged, possibly masochistic zealots with religious background to begin with.
So I doubt anything else similar to another thing is exactly a dismissal point.
>>380745486
Probably the best game that I fucking hate.
Wish we could get something that looked/sounded like DD but played like this.
>>380755346
Nigger they're nothing alike, abom is more similar. You just want to whine, your ideas are even more redundant basic bitch shit like 90% of the mod class garbage.
>>380756136
To me this seems like the complete opposite of DD.
Great and enjoyable combat, but worse in all of the other aspects.
A mix of both would by GOTYAY
Vampirism better remove the religious restriction.
I want my vestal or leper abom.
Why is there no full on wizard characters?
Slinging fireballs, and zapping motherfuckers.
i wanna see them make backstory comics on the bosses since most of them were actual human beings before the Ancestor screwed them over
see what the Necromancer looked like before he was murdered, the Prophet escaping the Ancestors traps, see if the Hag was really waifu material before she went mad, all of that stuff
>>380745784
>darkest dungeon
>roguelike
>>380757267
Doesn't fit the theme.
>>380756136
I've heard good things about this game but the unit art is bad enough to make me ignore it.
Reminder that if the grind is a problem for you that youre literally bad at the game. Just use antiquarians once in a while holy shit.
>>380745486
Very good artstyle
I liked the narrator
Linear and straight to the point
No real sense of progress
Limited build variety (if any)
No in depth party mechanics
Rng combat
Everythign feels so superficial. I had a hard time to keep being interested in this game.
>>380757654
Are there no elemental demonic figures to summon?
I mean you could have an occultist-like summoner, or something.
>>380757938
It's not a problem, it's just the entire game.
>>380745486
Pretty fun, but way too damn grindy
They added a less grindy game mode, but it also makes the combat encounters easier which means that it's literally easy mode, which is pretty gay
>>380757938
it's only truly a problem when the stagecoach gives you lvl 0s and 1s near constantly, that's a lot of dungeons you gotta pass through to level them up, made longer by the stress healing in between
money is easy, though, there should be profit problem when you dedicate at least half of the inventory space to loads of dosh
>>380758204
it's made clear through the ingame Occultist that the eldritch things can't really be controlled all that much, hell when he goes mad what seems to be the final boss itself takes over his body to taunt everyone
>tfw best girl in two games

>people complaining about RNG in this game
honestly you get so many second chances and opportunities to cut your losses and just escape that you really only should be dying if you enter a zone or a boss completely unprepared
>>380758502
Why are you so frequently in need of replacement heroes? My first run (darkest difficulty) I didn't lose a hero for like 55 weeks.
>>380760651
Mmmmmm, I'm not sure if that is the real art work
>>380749256
>If you didn't have to fight the same area boss 3 times
You actually don't even have to fight the area bosses even once to get to the Darkest Dungeon.

they're both pretty good there

>>380763021
I always saw people trashing them?
How does Highwaymen run, long term?
What the fuck is the point of the antiquarian?
I think it's pretty fun. I'm enjoying Radiant mode a lot more to be honest though. I have a normal difficulty file that I got up to about the time I was starting to set up for DD but I started Radiant mode for fun and it is a much more pleasant experience. The regular game's restrictions make it a big hassle at times in particular with your party comps and the level restrictions. Radiant gives you more leeway so you never run into situations where you have no good party comps to take out on anything. Also being able to reuse people for DD just cuts off so much fucking grind. It really shows how badly padded the original game is.
As for the RNG it's kind of bullshit at times but I feel it gets more manageable as you go. It's only a bit rough in the beginning when you don't know anything but once you know how to prepare and what to expect things start becoming routine (don't know if that's a bad or good thing).
Also I wish they would give more incentive to do Long dungeons. As it stands the only time I step into one is if the trinket rewards is amazing. Otherwise they're pointless and a drain on your characters. Limited inventory space makes it so you're not making any more profit than a medium which is stupid.
>>380763306
Crusaders are good if you're a beta pussy. They're undesirable team members otherwise. Vestal is the same.
>>380763306
They bring in the money. Increase stack size of gold, better interactions with curios.
>>380762380
How the fuck is that lewd? Get that shit out of here.
>>380763306
>What the fuck is the point of the antiquarian?
LODS EMONE
>>380760941
>two enemies get crits in a tow
>the RNG decides it doesn't like you when the third enemy uses an aoe attack or you just get hit by bleed from the previous two attacks
I mean it doesn't happen that often, but being forced to retreat because of bad rng or just getting one of the shitty quirks even when you do a run perfectly is shit
>>380758325
I know I'm going to be called a shitter or w/e, but I just can't use the Jester, I try so hard to make him work, but I just can't.
The stress heal skill feels useless as fuck it always seems to be better to do damage instead, to finish off an enemy and prevent stress instead.
Same thing with his buff.
>>380765370
Keep him in Rank 1 and start the fight with Finale. After than you can either keep him as a stress healer / buffer or go a more offensive build and have him shuffle back to the front to use Finale again.
>>380766384
Is that a Jojo reference?

Antiquarian raisez gold stack limit from 1750 to 2500, and if she's selected while opening curios, she'll find "artifacts" that sell for a decent sum when the mission ends.
>mfw Jute Tapestry
>>380763553

>Come to collect
>come
>>380767236
I like to think that the artifacts are always there but anyone who isn't moderately read on the subject just thinks they're trash and ignores them
>>380767605
Other than the Vestal, Crusader and Leper, and possibly the Flagellant refusing to join the Abomination, not really
The Aunties main selling point when it comes to choosing her is that she makes up for being terrible/very average in combat with making loads of cash by existing
>>380745486
Better with 'Easy Mode" RNG is not as bad. Good game, but like Souls frustrating in a "Fuck you! you cheating Fuck!" type of way.
>>380767657
This is my new headcanon, thanks
Overly long and wayyyyy too reliant on RNG.
Also the fact that it becomes a garbage town management/child rearing simulator halfway through is terrible, they should never have bothered adding all that shit it does nothing but make the game worse.
>>380763306
A lot of people trash on Highwayman too, but I like them, decent enough to get through whatever you need.Mine would dodge most attacks, and I kept making him use duelist's advance for the riposte buff as well.
>>380768343
>trashing on highwaymen

>>380769658
Is it? I just really like how it operates in general. I recalled a lot of people being split on him before.
>>380768883
tl;dr
>new location so large that you can leave in the middle of it and continue from where you left off later
>new vampiric disease that gives your characters the benefits and penalties of being a vampire
>vampire hunter that goes beast mode the moment he finds out that one of your heroes is a vampire, will be like The Collector and show up randomly to try and kick your ass
>couple of new bosses
>new hero that heals his friends by taking damage, the closer to death he is the stronger his attacks get
you'll have to pay 10 doll-hairs for it, though
*blocks your path*

>>380769940
Havent been playing in quite some time, but when I still was, there used to be at least one jester in all my teams.
>>380770410
We should do that before the dlc releases.
>>380770487
When does that hit anyway?
>>380770487
it'd be cool, but can we really keep it up? it had a good long run but there wasnt be much to talk about other than brag about expeditions or despair over failed ones
>>380770603
The 19th / Monday.
>>380770707
The Radiant Patch kept the general alive for months and that barely had any actual new content.
>>380770794
Also that wasn't the first time the general had existed. It went on for quite a long time during Early Access and release.
>>380770603

>>380770794
well that's fair enough. no harm in trying to start it back up anyways
>>380770712
Jesus. I might end up firing it up again. Never been able to finish a playthrough because I suck at the game and always get pissed when I get a party wipe, but still, put a few dozen hours in.
>>380770949
the beginning is always the hardest when you don't have the cash to overprepare
>>380770935
Cute Hellion
>>380771182
Well depends. In Radiant mode, everything up to Champion or whatever the tier 5 stuff is is cake. The top end stuff though, I don't know the game well enough to "overprepare". I tried to do that bandit lord tier 6 quest and got raped for example.
>>380771398
i'll never not be mad when i decided not to bring shovels there the first time, not even 5 minutes into the quest and everyone is freaking out a little and hurt before the brigands touched them
i want to know how they domesticated Madmen to fight for them too
The story is so fucking dumb in this game.
Also the game needs a bestiary. Too many creatures without lore explanations.
>>380757637
>your anal ruleset
>applicable in real life
>>380773457
yeah only a few are actually explained ingame, but the rest are just kind of there, like the giant bugs and cove enemies that aren't bosses
>Ancestor was irrisponsible with his experiment disposal and create a race of pigmen that live in the sewers
>Ancestor killed a Necromancer and brought him back to life because lol and he just let him move into the Ruins to summon dead shit for years
>Ancestor exiled a ho out from his home and that alchemist unleashed a parasitic fungus into the woodland
>Ancestor hired a bunch of mercenaries and killers to get the Hamlet to shut up and now they won't stop raiding everything
>The Cove: ???
>Keep losing teams to Swine God, Forest Hag, and Inchoate Flesh
>Fuck it 2 Hound Masters and 2 Bounty Hunters
>Kill each one first try without any becoming afflicted.
HM and BH are a broken combo but seriously fuck this meta shit.
>>380774013
Cove people were always there, like Innsmouth Fish folk. Ancestor used them to secure his smuggling route and sacrificed the Siren to grab some of his more exotic trinkets.
>>380774275
the way the promo says it made me think that they really did just come from nowhere, not to mention how the Ancestor said they surface every blue moon for a bargain
but i guess i can just dig with the whole 'they were living real quietly in their caves' thing
>>380745486
Very grindy and by grindy I mean getting parties with strong enough to do the red dungeons is extremely time consuming. Green and yellow dungeons are boring as fuck but until you have a few properly leveled and geared people you can't venture into the harder ones.
Class balance is a lot better than people make it out to be. Honestly, you can do decent with some pretty random parties or even niche strategies like 3 Antiquarians + MAA to get loaded on a long dungeon
