It sucks, but you'll be able to claim you like it for ebin hipster cred, so why not.

Sure. It gets pretty grindy, though.

Jesus Christ that's magical. How do you move the actual guns themselves? I can't seem to do anything but throw on add-ons
>>
Ignore negative idiot scrubs in this thread. Amazing step forward to the RPG genre and hideously overlooked.
Got 100+ hours and I still love it. Initial learning curve is steep, but don't give up.
>>
>>380737934
In game model is just a regular gun
>>
The side missions in this game were pretty crazy and required a lot of grinding, making the actual story chapters quite trivial

That's really my only gripe, it is fun as fuck and they need to adapt this combat system again

They came out in the same month. Both flawed gems.

I bought for $15 almost 5 years ago and i still haven't removed the plastic wrap. is it worth the time sink?
>>
>>380739604
you really don't have to grind if you learn how to play it properly. the mechanics are different and interesting. Try something different instead of sinking another 30 hours in Dota 2, Overwatch, CS or whatever your time waster is.
>>
>>380740109
I know the gameplay is original, that's why i bought it. It's just that i want to make sure i don't get bored 30h in. Also,i only play single player games.
>>
Easily.

This, TLR, and LO had the best jrpg combat last gen.
>>
Yes, ignore anyone who says otherwise, they probably got their ass handed to them due to the combat being too complex and went back to Final Fantasy or whatever entry-level shit they're comfortable with.
>>
>>380737521

Why does it suck?
>>
For sure, combat system is awesome, very memorable game I still hope it will get a sequel any minuye
>>
>>380737325

I heard the battle system makes it harder and harder the more you progress
>>
>>380740670
This
>>
The battle system is what makes this game so damn enjoyable. Leaping around the area filling everything with bullets or blowing them away with grenades is a blast.

The story is really really weird even for a jrpg but it's one of the few I can think of where it's actually fun to fight enemies.
>>
>>380737325
No it sucks. People who claim the combat is complex are lying. Every fight literally plays out the same, so when you've figured out the one way to win fights(which'll take maybe an hour or two) then that's what you'll be doing for the rest of the game. The game also requires a ton of grinding, which is especially bad since the combat is slow a fuck and the grinding even slower.

Everything other than the combat is also bad. No soundtrack to speak of. The environments are freaking awful, you'll be spending most of the time in bland two-colour backgrounds. The dungeons are just connected square arenas.

Not really

Good combat system but it gets old pretty quickly
Side quests are a joke
Main story is a bit of a bore
Characters aren't anything to write home about
Couple of funny moments here and there at least

Dressing up characters is actually the most enjoyable aspect of the game
>>
>>380740670
FF13 offer more variety to defeat enemies and literally every aspect of the game is superior to rof.
>>
I loved it. Storyline is a bit whatever but the focus is more on the interaction between the three main characters anyway. Its great if you need a break from the typical JRPG formula. Its definitely different.

I liked it a lot

then again I liked grinding the arena for items and just unlocking tiles to get more cosmetic shit. The story is a convoluted mess, but the main characters work well together and there are some rather funny moments

If you liked turn-based JRPGs, wacky characters and don't mind grinding for certain things you'll absolutely love RoF.

My favourite RPG from last gen. Totally worth it.
>>
I guess. You'll probably get 10 dollars worth of fun out of the gun customization and combat before you realize only one stat on the guns actually really matters and realize nearly every fight falls to the exact same strategy.
People only liked it at launch because it wasn't as blatantly shitty as Final Fantasy 12
>>
>>380737325
Yes, underrated gem that no one seems to talk or care about.

If you want something unique, go ahead and play it.
>>
>>380742485
Whenever you get a second gun

You should be machine gunning first
>>
>>380742480
RoF compared to ff13:
>just as linear
>worse scenery
>worse soundtrack
>worse story
>worse characters
>less variety in combat
RoF is just lesser known and thus more hip to claim is good.
>>
>>380742485
Wait until your shots reach max charge (It will be equal to your level in that type of weapon) it will do tonnes more damage then multiple low level shots.

2 characters with sub machine guns for scratch damage followed by a third with pistol for direct damage is best.
>>
>>380742485
Are you swapping out your characters for easy levels?

>constantly rotate their roles, their position when combat starts
>spam grenades for even more XP
>grind arena for that deagle
>learn what special ammo enemies are weak to, abuse it on bosses

Plus there's one optional dungeon that rewards a pretty solid SMG if I remember correctly, look it up.

easy mode : get 3 auto-triggers from the arena, equip your middle guy with 2 SMGS and you'll decimate most enemy groups
>>
>>380742829
what if i didn't like FF since IX and i like it?
>>
>>380737325
Yes. Just think of it like an episodic slice of life anime with guns, a flat chested 20+ year old, and dress up.

I really wanted to play this game again. Too bad I don't have a 360 anymore. PC port when?
>>
>>380740670
>complex

I liked the game for what it was but it isn't in any way complex. You just have to shoot with a machine gun and land in cover and then shoot with a pistol to actually do damage and land in cover. It's the easiest game in existence honestly.

The only time it got hard is when they introduced poison in the bonus dungeon which completely ignores all the rules of gameplay up to that point and just bullshits you out of existence with almost no way to counter it. Luckily it's not required to beat the game.

>>
>>380737325
It's kind of worth it for the novelty, I guess. The setting is neat and the battle system is definitely unique. It gets incredibly repetitive though and doesn't really evolve much.

Lost interest halfway through. I should give it another chance.
>>
Flawed gem

>Story makes no sense whatsoever, even after 2 playthroughs I have little idea what the fuck is going on.
>Characters are so fun you don't really care.
>Gameplay is complex but also kinda shallow at the same time, you learn everything you need to know by an hour or two into the game and there's nothing else to learn, but mastering takes a bit of time
>Sidequests are fun but grindy as fuck
>Music is dope
>Setting is COMFY AS FUCK despite technically being post-apocalypse
>New Game+ is utter bullshit, has like 20+ difficulty levels and you have to start from scratch every time with no real reward for doing so
>Zero replay value after finishing Neverland and Battle Arena unless you're a complete masochist

Going from binging about 80~ hours of RoF and then going to Spec Ops: The Line was jarring, since Nolan North voices both protagonists.
>>
Protip, talk to every npc after every new chapter.
Each chapter dialogue changes.
It's the only way to understand the story.
>>
>>380737708
Is this loss
>>
>>380746648
>>380740628
How is TLR anyway? I've had the PC version installed for almost a year but couldn't understand shite and lost interest, I barely started the game, got to the first city after escaping the cavern.
>>
>>380750787
For what I tried, u need a guide on how to grow the army, and the enemies grow way more than u when leveling, making imposible (or nearly) to kill last boss if u grinded for all the skills. Its nice anyway
>>
>>380751983
I couldn't for the life of me understand how the battle system worked.

And I keep hearing about some shithead called The Gates of Hell that makes you ragequit.

I haven't played it but I saved this image for some reason, it may help you.
>>
>>380751983
Grinding isn't a big issue in tlr, as long you can keep your weapons up to date, even the last boss is no problem.

Only the dlc content can be troublesome.
>>
>>380752915
This sounds like a fucking nightmare. Maybe when I was younger i could've gone balls deep into this but that might be too much for me now.

I'll give it a damn good shot, though.
>>
>>380750787
The game punishes you for leveling up and unless you follow a strict guide telling you exactly how to level up the game will eventually become literally unbeatable and you can kiss several hours of gameplay goodbye while you start over from scratch.

I respect the attempt at a new perspective of gameplay but It's really not worth playing.
>>
>>380754615
It's almost impossible to fuck yourself by grinding too much in the PC version.
>>
>>380754736
I beg to differ. I had trouble with a boss and tried to grind. That worked for the next few bosses but eventually I got to a boss that was near one shotting everything and grinding only made it worse. It's probably the only game I never beat and it was until way later I realized it was because the game design was fucked.

I usually think someone who can't beat a game is usually retarded but this game is straight up built to make sure you can't beat it on your first few times through and possibly never beat it without outside help.
