Honestly, at this point, Mario doesn't really have a choice. Like, I'm sure he has a ton of choices if he looks outside his species. Bet a ton of chicks would be into him.

However, at this point, its his mission by now. He already knows that Bowser is not going to give up. He knows that asshole dinosaur is going to steal the princess again and since he's a nice guy (and one of the few who can actually go toe to toe with Boswer) he's most likely going to go out of his way to save her or else he'll have her rape on his conscience. Or worse, the destruction of the world especially in the times when Bowser gets shit like the star people's powers.

Like, I bet he'd love to just stop and retire, play some golf or tennis, and hook up with some other chick who doesn't have dragon dude always chasing after, but he can't. Lives are on the line. The world is on the line. So yeah. Fuck Bowser. Or Peach. Whatever.

She probably never forgot him, actually. They seemed to be pretty buddy-buddy in Mari vs. Donkey Kong and its sequels, which pretty obviously takes place after Mario had hooked up with Peach considering the fact that it's not Cranky Kong who appears in these games.
