I love the GBA trilogy and hate Waifu Emblem. Will I like this?

No. It's literally worse than both Awakening and Fates in that regard.

It's nothing like the GBA trilogy since it pretty much remakes the maps from Gaiden in all their flat glory. The presentation and the character designs are a lot better than Awakening and Fates though. I'd say they rival Tellius games' armor designs and I have a boner for the Tellius series.

Depends why you didn't like the 3DS games. If it was simply because of the self-inserting waifu and unit-breeding nonsense, Echoes has none of that, with stellar all-around presentation to boot. But the gameplay/maps are on the basic side here. Good enough to hold my interest because I love FE, but not up to par with some of the better entries in the series.

It really does feel quite different from both GBA and previous 3DS games, though. It's certainly a remake of the black sheep, for better or worse.
