Vivendi is the one who merged activision and blizzard.
So, yeah, a few titles of some renown, I guess.
>>
>>380702615
>Vivendi (once the owner of Blizzard, later Activision Blizzard), searching for a new games publisher property has started investing in both Ubisoft and Gameloft. The brothers in charge of Ubisoft and Gameloft, Yves Guillemot and Michel Guillemot respectively, view the investments as a hostile takeover attempt, and are raising capital from within the family and from Canadian investors to maintain control of the companies. As of 8 June 2016, Vivendi has acquired a controlling stake in Gameloft. In news from 11 September 2016 Yves Guillemot is set to buy an additional 3.5% of Ubisoft shares to raise his stake to 12.5% to attempt to block a takeover from Vivendi. Yves has been attempting to lobby other shareholders to prevent them selling their shares to Vivendi.

/v/ is at it again.

Ubisoft isn't all that bad. If you look at the line-up of games they have made the past year and a half you really wouldn't be this hard on them.
Ubisoft had its lows towards the start of this gen but they have really tried to make something of themselves since then.
If you look at their latest E3 you can see that Ubisoft has almost hit their stride on becoming the developer we always wanted them to be but now that is all in jeopardy.

>>380706831
My good friends at Kotaku did a wonderful article detailing BG&E2, where they went to a behind-closed-dors demonstration of the engine. The tour guide said it took them years to get the engine to the point that they could seamlessly transition from the hub world on the ground level to space, and to simulate the entire universe at once. Just like how Pandemic developed a great engine for Star Wars Battlefront 3 and the other game that both got cancelled once they went under. The other game i CAN'T remember but they promised it would be great, so I believed them
>>
>>380709205

Some people liked it. The biggest issue with for honor was their netcode. A patchable thing.
It isn't a new thing for a publisher to be shilling their own game.
Seriously /v/ logic doesn't apply here so stop yourself.
>i can go with more games but i can't remember them.
That is because they weren't released in the last 1.5 years.

All in all your logic is flawed and doesn't disprove anything i have said.

My main point in the end is that if we look at ubisofts current future based on their E3 and based on no Vivendi, it honestly looks bright. But retards like you can't see it because you are so blinded by your shithead /v/ logic that you no longer understand reality.

if there's one thing I've always appreciated about ubisoft, despite how much they love to rehash shit, is how they really like to take chances, they still do even among the flood of rehash and fuck ups.
They are always there for new consoles or gimmicks in the gaming industry to to give it a nudge, it even if it works or doesn't.

Frenchfag here, really bad. Vivendi's boss is a tight motherfucker who only thinks about money, he controls too much (media, water consumption, digital and physical markets...) and tries to empower his presence everywhere. Only recently he got fucked in Italy when the local court stated the shares in Italian TV were too high. Latest move was to buy 60% of the first French advertising company, Havas.

He is a power hungry cunt. His only strategy is to increase his shares in every company he can bully and assfuck.

Vivendi was bought in 2012 by Vincent Bolloré (basically the the French Rupert Murdoch). He wants to make a French media empire, and has bought a lot of French media companies in the past years, including Vivendi but also : Canal+ (TV channels) and Webedia (websites, including video games).
He is behind all the recent acquisitions, and he's the one who wants Ubisoft. He's already got a very good grip on the video games sector: news and tests websites (JV.com), youtubers (squeezie), streaming (jvtv), esports (Millenium.org).
Basically Bollore wants to control everything, and has strong ties to french corrupt politicians (Sarkozy etc). He already did quite a lot of harm to Canal+, fired many people and axed programs because it was too subversive or made fun of his friends.
I really doubt any good can come from this. Vivendi only cares about money

Yeah totally, lets just ignore that they merged precisely right after Ulduars release in WotLK, nothing happened to that games quality following that point in time.

Oh yeah, lets also ignore that it was 2 months after the merge that SC2 was announced to be split into 3 games.

This bullshit Blizzard spreads about Activison not affecting them is hilarious, guess what happened when those companies merged? Blizzards CFO William Chardavoyne was fired, and Activision-Blizzard's finances as a whole came under control of the long time CFO of Activision, Thomas Tippl (Now replaced by Spencer Neumann as of May)

Every dime of financial funding for every Blizzard game since 2008 was controlled by Activision's CFO since 1995. They own Blizzard to the core.

Even EA is going to do be dropping it going forward with Battlefront 2. Seems devs are finally waking up to how much damage community splitting causes to the long term game health.

Seriously, BF3 and 4 got basically sundered in player base every time one of the new DLCs came, they either completely split the community in half between DLC and regular servers or the people who didn't have them just quit.

As much as I am not a fan of skin jewing (remember when costumes were unlocks?) if it means an end to maps and characters and shit being DLC then it's probably worth the trade.

nothing of value will be lost anon, they had a few good games over the years but almost everything they do nowadays is fucking shit. so watching them go up in flames only makes room for new studios to grow and fill the niche.

so tell me how will making Ubisoft even worse change anything for me as a gamer. Literally the only thing I play from Ubi anymore is Siege and I can do without that.
>>
>>380735739
Ubi wants to milk Siege for a 5 to 10 year cycle so get ready for a shit ton of season passes. They'd be mental not to have bundles/packs of the old operators sold for cheap(er) though since they're interested in preserving the longevity of the game and having new players constantly come in.

And I'd argue that the original operators are still definitely stronger overall than the DLC operators.
>>
>>380736507
yeah the original operators are still the core but it's the same cycle every time it seems

>new operators come out
>they are OP as fuck
>everybody has to buy them to stay relevant in the meta
>Ubisoft nerfs them
>still pretty strong
>Ubisoft nerfs them again to make them balanced
>new Operators come out

It's the LoL bait and switch of releasing characters that are strong as fuck so everyone buys them and then nerfing them. Frost was OP (Shotgun), BB was OP (Shield with 800HP), Capitao was OP (all that utility + strong gun), Hibana isnt OP but a better Thermite in a lot cases (who was the most picked operator at the time) and Shakal was OP (no recoil on his gun).

Big french media conglomerate. What's bad about them is they'd start by replacing Ubi Soft's current management, which is why *Ubi Soft's current management* is fighting against it. Beyond that, frankly, there's no certainty they'd even be bad. There's been a lot of talk regarding how they overhauled french TV network Canal+ but the truth of it is the C+ guys were losing money fast and the overhaul has made them profitable again.
>>
>>380741816
Backwards as fuck canadian laws required Ubisoft to make their Montreal and Toronto studios somewhat seperate from them, and its the one thing that'll keep Vivendi from marching over and saying "This is ours now, get the fuck out". The IPs on the other hand all belong to France.
>>

why are game developers so socially and real world stupid?

Everyone knows once your company if you have investors you literally do not own your company.

it be like if 10 guys off /v/ made a legit well-talented team and found 90 others then eventually 1000 all with great chemistry and could surprisingly make a good game.

But then for some odd reason of the original 10 3 suggest having investors for additional capital, then suddenly POOF you lose a bit of ownership, sure the money is nice. Then you get more and more, till eventually, you have a board of 10 people that are not the original.
As well as
>know nothing about vidya
>know nothing about the industry
>demand quarterly payouts
>expect revenue and don't care about time constraints

Literally, businessmen and investors are why the gaming industry gets worse and worse every year.

i'm yeah i get annoyed when my grandpa pulls the
>back in my day

But was having a full game longer than 10 hours bad?
Was having all characters in the game bad even if you had to beat the game in harder modes to get certain ones?
a season pass? Literally paying for an unfinished game

Does anyone truly dread what it could like 10 years from now?
>pay for the title of a game for 5$
>must pay 2-4 for additional characters
>must pay 10$ for additional levels to complete game
>must pay 5$ to see credits and bonus sneak peek of sequel
>must pre-order a year in advance to get the 2nd level in the sequel
>must pay 2$ in order to have certain buttons and items unlocked.

How will console ever survive?

Note that staving off this takeover is why they made a big deal of BGE2 at E3 despite being on "day 0" of development. They were trying to convince investors they'll be plenty profitable in the future, and were going to point to the reception of the BGE2 announcement as proof.
