SMT5 released on switch and PS4.

No smirking, still press turn system, but overhauled. Buffing should still be important, but done in a different way. Dungeons that aren't nocturne-tier but not make you want to kys eridanus tier.

If you hit an enemy's weakness, get a crit, or dodge an enemy's attack, there's a chance you'll smirk, causing your weaknesses to be set to normal damage plus a few more minor benefits, like the instakill chances of spells activating, and the enemy can also receive smirks in the same way. Was WAY more broken in it's debut, SMT4, where it also boosted the smirker's evasion to complete max.

It was used in 4. When hitting an enemy's weakness, critting, nulling, or dodging an attack, there was a chance you/the enemy would smirk. It gave whoever had it high evasion, higher damage, and an almost guaranteed chance to crit.

It's not so bad in Apocalypse. You have ways to give yourself smirk and turn off enemy smirk on top of the other changes from 4. I also like the hama/mudo interaction with smirk along with giving more variety in moves with added bonuses when smirked.

Not sure if you played it, but I thought they made it much more interesting and balanced in 4A. As long as they keep up with these small improvements, I'd be disapointed if they removed smirk.

What I really want is a few more unique untransferable skills across the game. Sakuna hikona or whatever was a great example, with his medium ice and force attacks that also had a debuff, yet he would fall off later game with less damage or hp, sorta like Daisouju but without sacrifice to keep him relevant all game.

It's an idea that needs expanding and balancing but overall i think it has a lot of potential to balance SMT's mechanics overall.

Soul hackers was obnoxious but they later improved it in Raidou where mag is purely consumed upon summoning and nothing else.
LIkewise, there's a lot of things they can do to expand this idea, for instance:
>Meta skills exclusively draining both mag and mp
>Demons with lots of useful skills take lots of mag to summon, meaning it's a decision of using multiple weaker demons vs one powerful demon
>Desummoning demons returns a portion of mag
>areas can have a mag-cap:only weak demons can be summoned
