Let's settle this once and for all. Missunderstood masterpiece or unfinished mess?
Most people love it. The ones that don't are just louder

Both
I wouldn't call it a masterpiece, but it was great. The only problem is the feeling that it could have been a masterpiece.
>>380697532
It was pretty crappy.
Is the story coherent?
I haven't finished my new games, but I've finished MGSV and still go back and play it all the time. There are things about it that are great, but it was never going to live up to the insane hype.
>>380697532
Ill-conceived shitfest
>>380697532
Unfinished mess, but I did enjoy the free swimsuit dlc.
>>380697532
Misunderstood mess.
unfinished masterpiece
>>380698021
>that dev time
from what ive seen its both
Gameplay is a masterpiece but everything else sucks. Level design, soundtrack, world, story, writing, art desing. Everything about it is hallow and dead. Still has one of my favorite missions from any stealth title I've played. The mission where you first encounter the helicopter on your way to the Temple.
>that bridge
>that valley
>the temple
Game completely shits the bed once you get to the jungle
It wouldn't have been a masterpiece even if it was finished. It's not like they had plans to make the open world any less empty, or to make the level design any better.
Being unfinished doesn't help, of course.
You spend 10s of hours crawling around fultoning people and running around an empty world only to get a big middle finger at the end with nothing resolved. Whole game was pointless except for it making sense of MG1 and 2 each having a Big Boss.
Story is fucking awful (ESPECIALLY QUIET) but entertaining, gameplay is good.
Dunno who debates this game.

Unfinished AND great gameplay
It's neither a mess nor a masterpiece. 7/10 strong chapter one and that's it
The only good thing to come out of the story is Tretij Rebenok.
I think I played less than 10 hours. Cut scenes felt cheap and nasty. Gameplay was just straight up boring and managed to become repetitive within hours.
I wasn't going to buy it because of the open world. Someone convinced me too and that's the last time I'll listen to them.
Unfinished masterpiece.

I actually really liked him, and the explanation of his powers. OP as fuck.
>>380698153
I really liked the mission leading up to the man on fire fight. the atmosphere and spooky shit was great. I also loved all the ways you could tackle that boss fight
The actual gameplay, as in the way it feels to play I think is outstanding but the story is obviously lacking so it is unfinished masterpiece.
>>380698710
the controls and smoothness are top tier. all 3rd person action games should learn from this game.
>>380697532
it's good but also quite flawed
>>380697532
Dogshit story, best gameplay in the series, underutilized setting and world design
>>380697532
mess
>>380698070
unironically this.
>MGS replay session
>speed through MGS 1 and 2 in just a handful of hours each and have a blast with solid gameplay and a fun story
>go through MGS 3, spend a bit more time fucking around because of how fun the whole thing is
>MGS4, at least the gameplay is tight and I'll just stick around for the stupid highjinks and that ending, I can get through it pretty quickly anyways
>PW
>oh boy, at least I can split up playing it in short bursts through a couple days and laugh at hayters awful voice acting
>GZ's, have a blast even though its a bit clunky
>reach V
>start a new game
>remember 60 hours of slow as molasses buildup for nothing
>fuck around in the overworld for a couple hours and uninstall
>>380701714
You're telling me you don't find farming soldiers and shipping container over and over and over to be fun?
good game with an unfinished story, that's pretty much all there is to it
>>380697532
both
>>380697532
>We live and die by your orders boss
>>380701991
it's literally your own fault for ruining your own fun, the main missions are mostly solid outside of the repeats and the 3 based on vehicles, why would you spend that much time farming for shit when the game just hands it to you as rewards if you don't have enough?
>>380702350
>the main missions are mostly solid outside of the repeats
so all 5 of them?
>>380697532
Unfinished
People call MGS2 a masterpiece because of how the story was presented and the gameplay was used with you to sell its theme (one of them) of reality vs fiction
MGSV is just kind of half done. The game's have been going down in quality since part 3 though so it was only a matter of time.
