The Etrian dubs are just so bad.
The only one I could handle playing was II because someone ripped the japanese audio and put it into the US version.

Seriously, I would buy all of the Etrian games if they would make them dual audio or at least forget the idea of dubbing them.

Luma 8.0 allows for button remapping. Luma 8.0 is also hilariously broken, but once its shit gets fixed it should be really useful as a whole.
I've also had success getting L and R to work by blowing on them. Clear your mouth of saliva, put your lips on the button, and gently blow into them, then they work perfectly for a short time. Maybe yours are more broken than mine but I thought I'd tell you about the trick anyway.
