How do you get better at RTS, /v/? I have almost perfected the starting phase of most of them but as the dimensions of the battles keep getting bigger I tend make mistakes and just become unoptimized at everything.
The only way I can win right now is to resort to cheap tactics like using overpowered structures/units and pushing for a early slaughter.
watch better players, then watch yourself

Do you recommend that even for a person that just want to play single player games?

Empire Earth. I've been putting towers everywhere and winning by bullying the AI.

oh, i just assumed that you wanted play competitively online. i guess, for ee, you want to make sure your units are doing things instead of idling. can't you make a custom civilization and just make units to take advantage of your bonuses?

I did that, went all to farming and citizen reduced costs with the rest on offensive buildings. My strategy is to abuse the stupid AI and make the towers close to their supply lines and choke them out of their farm points until they retreat. Make some catapults and keep pushing them further while building new towers around them and killing their troops by range.
I've been trying to make more upgrades and defend against their attacks but even with more resources and units I can't seem to coordinate the efforts and just end up killing my whole army by doing stupid things.
