Hypothetical situation here:
Ok, so lets imagine Metroid: Samus Returns was announced at E3 2 years ago instead of Federation Force and no one knew anything about Federation Force.
Now let's jump ahead to this year and the Metroid Prime 4 teaser still happened during the direct and Federation Force was revealed in place of Samus Returns during Treehouse and presented as a fun spinoff to hold Metroid fans over until Prime 4.
How do you think Federation Force would have been received? I still don't think it would have sold well, but I definitely feel like people would have been much more willing to give it a try if it was between 2 real core Metroid games.
You're right. It would have been received as another harmless spin off like Pinball and Hunters.

Honestly, the whole situation would have been way more positive for Nintendo if the Metroid 2 remake and Fed Force switched places.
Federation Force would have sold better for sure, and wouldn't have been shit on as much

I'd have been ok with this. I still wouldn't have purchased Federation Force, but I wouldn't have had a problem with it. It just happened to be the wrong announcement at the wrong time. It looks like Nintendo learned something from it
