one day I will own this board

Don't be silly anon, penguins can't own things.

Sudo Apt-Get install Noose

at least you typed "install" correctly.
WINE
is this my store?

Sudo apt-get is still being used?
Fucking hurry up then so I can leave windows
>>380666267
I mean, if you're using cli debian or any distro based on it then yeah.
>>380666267
Linux class (Yes actual linux college classes) only teach students fucking Ubuntu and CentOS.
>tfw after years of distro hoping and getting memed by /g/ you finally come to the realization that Linux is simply garbage
>>380666560
how?
>>380665640
>not sudo dnf install noose
kys
>>380665640
Well I did that but it appears your rope needs to get new drivers
>>380666502
I took a Linux in class in college and we officially used minimal Debian, although you could use whatever you want.
>>380666267
apt-get is totally de-facto still. Everything else is a front-end for apt-get/apt-cache/dpkg.
I was making fun of capitalization which makes it totally invalid.
>>380666502
>Debian and CentOS
Congrats on schools picking industry relevant distros and not go full retard like they usually do and make their students use SuSE or something.
>>380667153
>minimal Debian
I'm so fucking blown away, I thought university was a place for mediocre tards considering the type of formally educated Linux people I run into professionally.
>>380667170
>I was making fun of capitalization which makes it totally invalid.
FUCKING LINUX
>>380667170
suse is used in sap/hana stuff
>>380664772
Are there any other video game characters who use linux?
>>380666915
Not him, but for home server use Linux is perfectly fine. If you want to actually use it as your desktop operating system however, I hope you don't care about doing anything other than programming and browsing the web, because in terms of software support it's pretty limited.
>>380667447
...sure
>>380667276i actually took it at a CC prior to transferring to Uni
Anyway, I can't tell if you're being sarcastic about the use of Debian, but we were also quite lucky to have a dude come in regularly that was a sys admin at WB and show us some of the more autistic nuances. He was a fedora man himself, but a Linux user since the mid 90s.
>game has bash-like command line with GNU-like tools
>linuxy enough that it's not DOS
>too gamified so your usual flags won't work
>>380667630
why do you need a class for that? why not, like, read the manual?
>>380667630
I am a linux sysadmin with 10+ years experience and I love Debian. Last few years I've been switching my servers over to Ubuntu LTS so I can get a more modern stable branch. Though for Linux desktop I still use Debian sid/experimental to avoid canonical bullshit.
With a few exceptions, Ubuntu and Debian are basically the same. You can even add those user PPA repos to Debian. For the longest time the "real benefit" to Ubuntu was an out of the box GNOME desktop with a nice installer for Windows plebs, that's it. Ubuntu was the "I can't install Debian" distro.
Considering how third party package support has been going, there are now some benefits to actually using Ubuntu over Debian but they can be worked around if you understand how to manage pin your repos and stuff.

Some computer science degrees at CCs require it for some reason
Im in CC right now doing shit for IT security and it required linux admin classes id expect linux fags to actually like that idea
>>380667729
I was already a Linux user. I took it out of curiosity as to how a class would be structured and have an easy boost to my GPA. And I wanted to see if I'd pick up anything new by seasoned users.
I don't regret it. The professor was cool as shit, and I got to learn of a LUG in the area to meet other autists.
That being said though, I think Linux classes should be required for normies with no linux, much less CLI, experience if they're going into software development or CS. You'd be surprised by the amount of CS students who had never used Linux before. Hell, I'm just a straight up sciencefag, and the first internship I did required a lot of data reduction using a CLI, and it was a 100% new thing for many of my peers there who had never used a computer without a GUI.
>>380667630
oh and anything other than Ubuntu LTS/Debian for servers is total garbage. You'll find tons of RedHat CentOS servers in the wild but those are largely legacy and if you're a good sysadmin you're moving away from it. The CentOS/RedHat repo is _GARBAGE_ and forces you to use buggy ass third-party repos to get some even remotely recent. Hell by default the version numbers are held back so you get false positives for security vulnerabilities even though patches have been backported. You'll have issues with PCI compliance and auditing.
>not openbsd
>>380667153
Lucky. Our Linux admin course used OpenSUSE 11.4, although whenever I hear about Linux systems it's everything except SUSE.
>>380667962
Systems and Admin courses are for IST degrees, not CS. I wouldn't be surprised if Sec degrees end up more IST/CS fusions though.
