The tier-lists have been getting fixed for the past 16 years because people still actively play the game competitively for some reason, so it's safe to say that the tier-list is perfectly accurate now. They've modded the game to check the hitboxes/attackboxes of moves too.

At low level casual play, it doesn't really matter that much until someone learns to just forward smash with Marth, or just forward tilt/forward air with Sheik.

For some reason tons of new players gravitate towards Kirby when starting, I guess because his recovery is easy with multiple jumps and just spamming rock/cutter/hammer/inhale is a fun special move set.

An example is that Kirby or Pichu are decent if you are playing someone who sucks.

If they use a harder character, and aren't good, and you use Kirby you can still win easily.
