Not really. He's reptillian, Helix isn't. It's even been said ARMS Labs is interested in him because he's had ARMS since birth.

Community seems small and chill, with no shortage of outside haters criticizing it for being "not a real fighting game" and other assorted horseshit. It's really caught the stink eye of a lot of people just for existing and being on the switch, unfortunately. But I think this will weed out phonies pretty quickly.

Basically, what the Pokken community would have been if Nintendo had supported Pokken with any sort of DLC at all.

I'm still blown away by how excellent the online lobby system for this game was. Really sold me on my ability to enjoy this even I'm the only one of my friends with a switch right now.

Great. In party mode you basically get thrown in with a group of ten or so people and every mode available, including team modes. The rival you were fighting last round might be your teammate the next.

When you're waiting in the lobby, you can watch a little marker of all the shit going down, taunt, wink, do little gestures and stuff.

Basically it's a great way for grudges, friendships, mutual alliances against "that one asshole" and other shit to build all while fucking around. Exactly what a "for fun" lobby should be.

Ranked is straightforward. You sign in to ranked and wait for a round with someone around your skill level. Win to rank up. Lose and rank down.
You can do literally any other mode while waiting though, which is cool. In order to qualify for ranked mode you have to have beaten the Grand Prix on at least 4 Difficulty.

You can add anybody you played with recently from the switch friends list UI, too.

Is ARMS the first 4D fighting game ever made?

Think about it. In a game like Street Fighter or Guilty Gear, it's easy... you only have two dimensions.

In a game like Tekken or Virtua Fighter you have three dimensions.

But in ARMS, not only do you have these three dimensions, you also have the fourth dimension (time). Why? Because of the travel time of your arms, it's equally as important as your mastery of the three conventional dimensions. Making the right calls, calculating in your head how many nanoseconds it will take for your arm to arrive in the desired location... goddamn, Nintendo really went all out with this game, possibly creating the most complex, in-depth and hardcore fighting game the genre has ever seen.
Just checked with the FGC, they're already going nuts over it.

Obviously at lot simpler combat than SFV or GGXrd, and even smash. It's fun, but honestly for a different reason.
If you get enjoyment of out footsies and reads then yeah it's a fine game. It just looks like shit cause most footage has scrubs playing, but I had some decent high level matches where getting even a single punch was hard to land purely off of both of us dodging and blocking well.

I can't be the only one plesently surprised with how they translated some of the more odd fighter types or whatever you'd call them from traditional fighting games into ARM's formula.
Twintelle is a zoner, Barq and Byte is a puppet character, Max Brass is stance change...

The did so to balance the fact the joycon player have to tilt their controllers inwards to block.
Both the stick on the procontroller and the direction you face the joycons control movements. So they made the procontroller also bock with the piece it uses to move.

Just think about it. Sure, in other fighters you're moving your arms around a little, especially if you're fiddling around on those things you call fightsticks, but ARMs quite literally opens up a new dimension: physical movement. Not only are you pressing traditional buttons, you're also physically exerting yourself each and every match via the incredibly precise punching. You see, with the revolutionary technology in the Joy-Cons ARMs not only detects motion in the X and Y axis, but also on the Z axis allowing for life-like accuracy. Nintendo truly went above and beyond what's expected of a traditional fighting game, it's unbelievable.
Players are going to get so ripped from ARMs they'll immediately standout at tournaments and the like. You could compare it to a squad of attractive NFL players walking around an anime convention. Stacys are going to flock to the ARMs section of every tournament in droves, the rest of the FGC might as well throw in the towel now since it won't even be a competition. Then once normies see how fit ARMs players get just from playing the game, it'll be Game Over for the rest of the FGC.

ARMs is going to be a cultural phenomenon the likes we haven't seen since SF2, perhaps even surpassing it. Because of the incredibly precise mechanics, I wouldn't be surprised to see the game birth a new Manny Pacquiao or Floyd "Money" Mayweather within a generation or two.

Having been forced to use single cons during some co-op on the test punch, I can at least say it's not that imperative. Guarding with the stick is just as responsive as a normal button, and you can still react just as fast as hitting a L trigger. Same would apply to every other button layout really.

So how often do you think we'll get these free updates? I guess we can expect each new character to come with three new Arms. So do are we looking at a new character about every 4 months for a year or two?
And aside from that, do you think we'll get events like Splatoon? Hopefully they'll come up with a better name than FistFest .
It'd also be cool if they eventually have some amiibo support and more stuff to unlock than new Arms. Apparently there's already someone with a pre-release copy on Youtube who already hit 100% unlocks.
In the end, it's both a fault and a gift that this game has a lot of potential. In one way, it feels like there's so much that they could do with this game if it takes off, but on the other hand, it feels like there's a little more they could have added to make it a complete package.
