You can't really roleplay at all, you are always either an ex soldier or a former lawyer. Killed the replay value for me.

Game is still fun though, base building is addictive if you're in to that sort of thing, the guns function better to the point were you don't really need vats, good world building, mostly good characters, interesting questlines, main story is okay but definitely better than 3.

pick survival mode, start game, ignore the story and explore the map. also use immersion enhancing mods, like darker nights

Its not that its a bad game, its just a typical bethesda game, with all of the common problems. There is nothing to stop you from becoming incredibly overpowered fairly quickly in the game, making the rest of the experience even more boring. I had more fun wandering around the map completing areas, bandit camps, helping people, quests etc. as I came across them than I did actually setting a goal and completing it. If you are to play, don't be a fucking stealth archer (stealth gunner/melee) as that will destroy what little challenge there is.

The combat is actually the best for a bethesda game. The AI is surprisingly reactive for both you and the environments.

A few times you relate more generic type memories when talking to old ghouls and such. "I remember when X happened, there used to be Y around" etc

The graphics is the most underrated aspect for me. It almost looks like the CGs from old Fallout games. Not quite right, but much better than the washout shit we got on FO3.

Companions are miles better than in NV.
Far Harbor is pretty good. Nuka World is better than many try to convince you. Boston is one of the best vidya cities right now. Basebuilding is useless. Vault 88 for that matter would need a fucking supercomputer to run smoothly fully built. Roleplaying is nearly non-existent. Crafting has some neat ideas. Legendary items are seem good at first, then turns into bullshit as there are nearly no real uniques. Weapon/Armor upgrades are very straightforward and homogenized meaning you'd only want the highest numbers and nothing else.

The DLC is pretty good too. Far Harbour is quite enjoyable as far as quests, and Automatron is a lot of fun. The workshop DLCs are an easy pass though.

Install good weapon mods and then at least the gameplay is fun. But compared to NV it's shit as a whole.

Far Harbor has nice atmosphere but I hate the story and it wasn't that exciting to explore.

Nuka World has you become a leader for three raider tribes, which is kinda interesting, and it's surprisingly fun to explore the place. The entire game should have been a bit more like Nuka World, especially in terms of aesthetics and atmosphere. It has great soundtrack.

Gunplay is an improvement, so are the graphics... but weapon variety is lacking, the world is kinda meh, settlement building was overused to the point where exploration is even more boring.

Also jesus fuck the character design/writing is just retarded. It's probably one of the main reasons I can't replay it. This might be Bethesda's worst writing yet. Militia mostly formed by farmers with butchered high tech laser rifles with handcranks for some reason, underground railroad in charge of freeing robots, a secret bunker of scientists wanting to help humanity by killing them, robots thinking their pirates flying an 1800's battleship with rockets, an immortal family fueled on alien blood, a baseball stadium acting as a central city guarded by fucking catchers with baseball bats...

My god it pisses me off how fucking retarded their writing and design staff is.
