Evil Within sold pretty well actually. Not a crazy amount on any system, but when you add 5 systems together it's looking at like 4-5million+. There's a reason it got a sequel.

I feel like horror shooters have a pretty big inherent appeal to the normie crowd. RE, Dead Space, and the like. They're naturally drawn to shooters since they want more CoD-like shit, and when you couple that with their desire for haunted house scares like Paranormal Activity, you've got a winning combination.

What really hurts the genre's financial viability is that the games require good graphics, and thus money. Eventually the money required to make them isn't sustainable even with a few million purchasers. Thus Dead Space getting buried, and RE toning way down for 7 to get the budget under control.
