Are they pulled from alternate timelines? How does SEGA top this kind of story for the next installment? Didnt they say it wasn't Generations 2? Will Sonic recognize Chaos and Red and point it out? Does this game take place immediately after Sonic Chronicles?

He has to be relevant somehow now that SEGA's nixed G.U.N. and all their affiliates. Rouge, Shadow, and Omega have nothing to do anymore. We'd be lucky to see Rouge anymore, Omega maybe, but Shadow is a fan fave so he's gotta be shoved in there acting edgy for literally no reason.

It's an alternate timeline in which Robotnik sends classic Sonic to the future so he can take over the world without him interfering. Without Sonic around, Chaos was never nullified and Shadow never went through the events of SA2 that lead to him realizing Maria's will.
