You loved it
>>
you probably thought is was a good game that need a lot more polishing
>>
>>380615163
i was actually surprised how polished it was. forgot to mention i was playing the redux version
>>
>>380614889
all I know is that I was absolutely terrible at killing the mutants you encounter the most. I forgot their names. I don't know if they were bullet sponges or if I never found the best weapons to kill them but every encounter with them was a frantic mess that ended up wasting way more ammo than I wanted
>>
You thought it was shit and as a result you're going to kill yourself, but not before going onto 4chan to make one last really shitty thread nobody cares about.
>>
YOu liked the atmosphere but were very annoyed by ridiculously low fov
>>
If you were anything like me you were disappointed to find the game freezing intermittently this year despite being perfect a couple of years back

Fuck sake, I just want to play the games again while waiting for the new one!
>>
>>380614889
Does the game always give you a companion? I got like 4 chapters through the game and was annoyed I had to deal with them

>>380617261
It's the main complaint you can hold against the game, it constantly tasks you with babysitting shitty NPCs. If you really want a sense of freedom, play the sequel, Last Light. They essentially just let you off the hook one third of the way into the game and leave you to explore the Metro.

While you can choose "classic" stealth mechanics in redux, they're still much more tolerant to player than in original.
I think that it doesn't even matter where you're walking anymore, unless you trigger a trap you're perfectly silent if you're crouching. That's bullshit and I have no idea why they thought it'd be good in what essentially is a grafix upgrade.
>>
I mentioned this earlier in the thread but I was just being mad and didn't really ask.

All ranger difficulties makes headshots lethal on human enemies unless they're "heavily armored" in which case your first shot takes off their helmet, second one is lethal. Damage multipliers are raised overall, you can maybe survive 3-4 hits in a rapid succession on ranger1, 1-2 on ranger2, but your human enemies are also much more fragile.
Found ammo is also limited to 1-5 rounds per pickup as opposed to 6-30 on normal difficulty.
Game is still not that hard actually.
>>
>>380617261

metro 2033:
>Little Bitch Bourbon hides and waits for you to kill absolutely everyone in the area
>refuses to help you at all other than random shouting
>proceeds to the impassable door to let you through once you do it

Metro 2033 Redux
>Uncle Bourbon becomes an immortal Russian killing machine
>If you blow your cover when sneaking he jumps from cover and starts blasting
>will kill everyone in the room even if you don't fire a single shot

If you want Ranger Hardcore to actually be Ranger Hardcore then you play the original Metro. It also helps to have knives as a separate weapon, so you can poke and throw your way to victory if you like going quiet.

It's maxed settings, a few weeks ago I installed both 2033 and the redux version to compare them. I played both on Ranger Hardcore, and the only one that fit the description is the first one. Companions kill everything for you in redux, making some of the harder areas trivially easy. Not to mention they got rid of all the dynamic fog and some other effects. To be fair, the original metros candle light flicker looks weird as all hell. You can see the cycle the colors go through after a few seconds, it's kinda annoying. But its merits far outweigh that minor issue.
>>
>>380627020
No it's because they refused to use the currency as ammo.
This section with ditry rounds is indeed a nightmare since it takes too many shots to kill them.
Also revolver works well, kills them in 1 shot.

Because they could, and they knew it would make them money, even if they sold it for 5 bucks. You needed a pretty damn good PC at the time to max it out, and the performance and difficulty was a turn off to the more casual player. The console remake was clearly a good fix for that particular demographic. I'm not trying to start shit, I'm just looking at it from a business perspective.

No, you just look at them. That's it. They lunge at you, you take a step back, then they shrug and fuck off.
I have a theory that it only works if you have enough karma points (white flashes during the game for gibing moni to poorfags, exploring and interacting with stuff).
>>
>>380628516
your FOV lowers when you aim regardless
>>
>>380628773
>No, you just look at them. That's it. They lunge at you, you take a step back, then they shrug and fuck off.
I want to believe you except I played the game.

Looking at them makes them pause for a moment, then they start crawling towards you, then they eventually chase you even if you're looking at them while walking backwards.

I watched a video that showed me I have to aim at their heads, and it worked when I did so. Either my game was broken or you're lying.

I literally don't see what I would gain from that, anon.
They walk up to you, you stand your ground. They start growling and shouting, back off if they try to take a swat at you but do nothing else. Raising/switching a gun or doing stuff with gas rebreather apparently doesn't count as doing anything, but moving until they actually try to harm you apparently does and makes them aggressive.

>>
>>380628995
I think the issue you were running into is there is a sweet spot where it works. You said you were backing up, but if you get too far away from them they tend to charge.
Your best bet is to stand still though not let them get within striking distance. Once they've stopped once and begin staring you down, if they take a step forward then match their steps backward.

You are both retarded.

I've always preferred lethal stealth, using the revolver carbine, Helsing, Tihar and throwing knives to fuck with the enemy and slowly pick them off. Hopefully the more open levels of Exodus will let the human and monster AI shine. Non-lethal combat is patrician tier but you can't do that in Metro.
>>
>>380636934
>Which ending do you get doesn't even seem to take that into account anyway
If you initiate combat before listening to some of the enemy banter you miss out on morality points. So yeah killing them only affects ending indirectly, I'm not even sure you need to listen to any of them since there are fucktons of morality points to be earned by level exploration alone.
It's a nice trap for people who just run towards the level ending instead of taking the time to explore.
>>
>>380636934
I have no idea what you're trying to say other than you're a call of duty fan.

Metro is a linear game with a variety of ways to play. The story lets you know when you've made good or bad decisions. The ending adjusts accordingly. It's a good game because it doesn't rely on open missions that you complete at your leisure because it's a game that should be about constantly moving towards a single goal.
>>
>>380636764
Yeah I like that, I'm really glad they did that, but i'm more than sure 4A wouldn't have been cheap and done a Far Cry clone.

However, what I am worried about is Metro 2035 the book. I fear that 4A might take the exact plot from the book. That would be fucking horrifying, the only part that actually destroys the Metro feeling is adding in the illuminati who are controlling all the factions.
That shit's just like Bethesda saying in Fallout 3 that aliens launched the nukes.

I have faith that 4A will not base their game directly off of the book and copy that horrifying breaking part of the story,
>>

The same reason most people have watched the inferior 4 hour version of Apocalypse Now.
They see something like "Survival Edition" or "2017 Razor Killerfucker Edition" and they automatically assume it's a better version.
And after they've played it, the same thing happens that happens in console wars. No one really knows about the opposite sides points, but people don't wanna admit they wasted time/money doing something inferior

>A.I.
They cut out a shitload of enemies states entirely. They're either looking for you, don't give a fuck or shooting at you now, no in-betweens.
It absolutely doesn't matter where you walk, as long as you're crouched you're perfectly silent. Which is even more weird because there is broken glass to prevent you from going certain ways in earlier Metro 2033 level. Guess what, that doesn't mean shit now.

This really was the height of the book. It actually felt as intense reading as it was playing it.
Sadly the rest of the book felt like the translator just used google translate.

>>380647998
So it was that thing from the game?
Why are you so impressed by it, I don't understand.
>>
>>380647998
I need to actually read the book. I left off when Artyom was confessing to Hunter what happened when he was like 12

>>380648707
Toughest enemies in the game along with decent build up and the atmosphere make it very intense

DS2 was the perfect port, it even had different crosshair settings, you could have it to be always in center of the screen like in any cod-like shooter
>>
I preferred LL to 2033. THere was noticeably less scripted segments in LL, no fov reduction, the base 2033 made me feel like I was playing the game looking through a microscope, before I could change some of its fov. Also there's plenty of annoying aim sway in the first game, when you carry the kid, when you go outside and it's windy, and many places your aim just goes in random places which is just annoying. The chase sequence of 2033 for example was just scripted garbage.

I think the first game had a better ammo management survival aspect than LL, but that alone didn't make up for its downsides.

It was pretty well optimized but the mouse was still fucked
>>
>>380649463
why do the games only feature nazis and commies
there were like 42023 different factions in the book

It's very short and doesn't even have any pickups, just run past it, your health regenerates anyway.

Literally why the FUCK would you play on any difficulty other than Ranger Hardcore
>>
>>380652375

cause filters that keep enemies alive forever only have a couple dozen seconds when you pick them up
>>
>>380652375
It regenerates on ranger difficulties too. Literally get almost dead and go suck on a gravel in a corner for a while, it'll come back up to 25%.
