I've heard a lot of people say that they're excited that Monster Hunter World is introducing/bringing back "actual hunting"/ "hunting mechanics" when the first trailer was shown and I'm not really sure where they are seeing it. Monsters still have designated areas so you don't actually have to explore to find a monster except for the first time just like always. Hunting flies just guide you to the monster, the only actual change to any "hunting" mechanic and I highly doubt paintballs/psychoserums ruined the game for anyone. The stealth mechanics are shallow, just like always.
Can anyone explain what I'm missing?

I've heard this from both people who have played all the 3ds games and from people who never played the game because it was a handheld so I doubt it's just that.

To my understanding monsters drop an item called residue which helps the flies track them for you. Collect enough residue and then the monster becomes permanently marked on the map. I might be wrong though.
