Help me out here, anons. I remember playing Atlier Iris games back in PS2 and having a blast, despite the questionably overblown animu themes. Mana Khemia continued that in a relatively pleasant tone.
Since then like 99999999999999999999999 Atelier games have been released, but only recently have they come out in Steam, thus giving me the chance to notice them to begin with.
What I see here is that the artwork has become pretty as fuck, which I am into, but this shit also looks like loli porn bait 2000% more than before.
What am I in for? Is it moeblob garbage with grinding for trash materials?
Or does it manage to actually be an interesting series of games? Reccettear managed to be an extremely fun game with the loli factor actually being a hilarious pro as opposed to a cringey con, and it is based on that that I am not automatically driven away from this Atelier rollercoaster.
There are so damn many being pushed out though, it makes me wonder if it's due to them being shit quality short grindfests.

>grinding for trash materials
In one form or another, it's grinding for trash materials in under a certain amount of days. On the PS3, I would just load up a certain month and keep doing it until I was able to meet the time limit.

Does the average storyline for 'em at least become enjoyable? And/or the gameplay become engaging? Battles in old PS2 Atelier/Mana games were quite fun for turn based RPGs.

Sophie and Firis were shit. The best modern Ateliers were Rorona+, Meruru, and Ayesha.

They brought the WORST ATELIER GAMES IN YEARS to Steam because of how badly the most recent one bombed, they wanted to salvage sales.
Ayesha is fucking amazing but it's PS only.

That's a pity, really. Any reason they are greviously worse than the rest? Cast/playstyle/too short?

They casualized it more and more. Leading to very boring stupidly easy games.
