We know the basic maps will be there. Tundra, Volcano, Forest/Plains. I saw another video on a website saying that monsters can swallow and spit out entire monsters. That sounds cool

Also I'm imagining that with the ability to bring an extra loadout set to your camp, how much more I can enjoy just being out there in the world. Every map is now like the Moga Woods free hunt. That's a big plus.

I seriously hope that we get to see some more gameplay on June 20. I want to see how other weapons handle and I want to see a real hunt. One journalist at the private event said that small monsters (attackers like rhenoplos and jaggi not herbivores) now properly run away and don't just take the side of the large monster all against the hunter. The monsters fight each other based on what eats what, or who competes with who. He said that Rathalos flew down (not up to a nest like in the trailer) to try and steal the kill from the hunter and take Anjananth away. But Anjananth repelled him and the hunter was able to finish him off a little bit further.

Having those moments where you're fighting a monster and something like Deviljho shows up and is your "ally" for a short time has me excited. These games have always had really basic AI and everything was always against the hunter before. It's nice to see a dynamic environment that changes and monsters that ACTUALLY hunt each other real time. You know, instead of that one off "I fly to another map and there is a pre-determined herbivore standing there stupidly waiting to be attacked so Rathalos can eat".

I think it's because Japan sees those ideas and thinks about how they can be applied to game design. Western devs just see it like a painting. Maybe. Think it has more to do with being more console focus. Western has always been PC focus so power has always been in their minds. Japan PC market pretty much ended in the 80's so everything was pretty much console focused. And when you are console focus you have to work within a box and try to make that box as fun as possible. This game is a risky move by Capcom. Japan has traditionally been the target demographic for Monster Hunter, and Japan has very vocally been all about playing Monster Hunter on portables.

The new game is trying to shift the target demographic to western audiences who may or may not be interested, which may result in some gameplay changes that could potentially alienate any of the long time fans that arn't already alienated by the choice of platform not being a portable. Not confirmed yet as they haven't show any real gameplay, but that's why people are concerned. They're tossing the hardcore Japanese players to the side in favor of trying to reach a new audience, but if that backfires and mainstream Americans gamers arn't interested then they've fucked themselves by betraying their cult following for a group of potential customers that don't give a fuck.

We should know by next week if the gameplay changes are dramatic enough to warrant a freakout or not.

It has all the polish added from 3rd gen without the water combat, regarded as the easiest in the series and naturally a great starting point, fully translated, nice monster roster, and graphics meant to display on a PS3. You really can't go wrong here.

Option 2: MHFU
The big one that many a MH fan started with and/or spent the most time with. Some will hail this as the golden example and insist you start here, but I find it to be too discouraging. But if you think you're hard enough, have a go at it. You can always fall back to the easier of the two.

Since monsters are less predictable you can't think "Okay it attacked me twice in a row, now it's gonna try to hit my cats, I can safely heal now". Or when the monster turns to face you before starting its charge and you know you're going to have to dodge first.
Since the monsters can attack faster and less predictable now, you need to be able to heal faster.
