Xenoblade is still niche, the 1 has like 3 doujins only and all them are about melia. Homura is actually getting loads of fnart considering this.

The game just seems kinda unambitious. The concept of the world seems cool, but the actual enviroments are at the very least less interesting than the ones in X. The gameplay seems just different for the sake of being different (though considering what a mess X was in that regard, that might not be such an issue). The menus look really cheap and there just seems to be too little there compared to X. I also don't know what to make of the Blade system. The story also seems to be really really unambitious.

I dunno. Nothing I've seen so far has really made me excited. But on the other hand, I was really excited for X and that was a huge disappointment, so maybe this will be the other way around.
