It's weird but for some reason this game suffers from the same problems I have with other Souls games.

At first glance, the game looks beautiful and detailed, but once you see it all in motion, everything suddenly looks like it was made on early PS3. Took me like 10 mins to go from wow "From has really improved" to "Damn, this looks like the same game from 5 years ago" when I first played DaS3.

They've improved the combat alot since the first trailer. Game looks pretty too, still my most anticipated game. Never played Dark Souls or whatever since it really didn't interest me. In Souls games blocking is very good too, it's an option if you're not confident in your reactions to dodge certain attacks, and it's actually the best option against certain enemies. For example, in Dark Souls 3 the snakemen rogues which are a pain to deal with without a shield bounce off your shield and become open for a counterattack.

Dodging just takes more skill and is more fun so it makes sense that it receives most of the focus.

Tanking just has no place in this type of action game since it takes no skill at all and you win solely by bigger numbers/stats/etc. And even then, in Dark Souls 1 it was viable against certain bosses like Four Kings and Nito to just equip full Havels and a high DPS weapon and spam to win. I see this as a flaw however, and it's nice to see it removed or nerfed except against much weaker enemies.

Dodging without i frames would be interesting at first but once the novelty wears off I think it would be negative to the overall gameplay. You would have to tone down enemy attacks to make dodging feasible, and combat would devolve into just spacing, which is less fun than actively dancing around the enemy timing your i frames to the monster's attack. This isn't a bad thing, if you want to tank go play a MMO. Blocking is there as an option, not as a "hold a button and become invincible" answer to everything. It's there to allow you to be safer, you get to see enemy attacks and their timing while safe, you get to prevent damage from hard-to-react attacks, etc. but in the end it would be incredibly unbalanced if you could just withstand everything. It's good design that ultimately you have to choose what to block and what to roll, and to roll away and manage your stamina better to deal with harder attacks.

You're just approaching shields wrong. The game isn't "hard", but it's skill based, and it would be against the game's design to make shields that strong. And even then, if you invest enough stats and have a very good greatshield, you can get close to that kind of gameplay.

Just interrupt the damn enemy, backstab it, parry it, etc. You can usually attack in between, too. If you're using a heavier weapon, well, you're making a choice trading attack windows for more raw damage and staggering power, which actually helps a lot on the non-boss enemies. Fight Pontiff Sullyvahn with an ultra, it can be a pain, but then you fight a Ringed Knight and it's way easier with a heavier weapon than with a small one because you can stagger them with your attacks.

"Time your rolls to the enemy's attack" is better, yes. There are plenty of enemies with roll catching attacks that get you if you just mindlessly spam roll. In fact, more enemies should have them, but then people complain about delayed attacks and enemies not being extremely predictable.

Small weapons are better against bosses, yes, I admitted that, while heavy weapons are better against "elite" normal enemies. Also, staggering is reliable in BB and DaS3. Just fight any Lothric Knight, or like 99% of BB's normal enemies. There are enemies that are stronger against being stunlocked than others, but that's beside the point..This is getting quite off topic from dodging vs blocking vs tanking, though.

Actually heavy weapons are great against these attacks not because of the stagger but because of the ultra-armor. When I got sick of those awful super long attacks in the Ringed City DLC I just got a UGS to +10, and attacked them when they were about to launch the combo. If I was too slow it allowed me to poise through the first attack and then they would be stunned long enough for me to land a second one.

These attacks are still fucking annoying, if you use a lighter weapon you pretty much have to make 4 perfect rolls. And yeah I pretty much stopped using shields as well, I only wear them out of habit, for pvp or just in case there is an attack Im not confident I'll be able roll.

As far as I remember, Abyss Watchers have it, Yhorm have it (not that it's much of a problem in this case), Dancer of the Boreal Valley have it, Sister Friede have it, Gael have it. What would be better is have some attacks be impossible to roll through but easy to block, and some attacks working like kicks in that they deal miserable damage but destroy your stamina if you block them. As long as they some kind of unifying theme that people can recoginize which is which really quick even if they never seen them before it would promote all methods of defense, not just "solve everything with rolling"

Except they're not. Fast weapons deal more damage and stagger any enemy easier than any heavy weapon. Even regular Longsword in Dark 3 hits like a truck despite not being so called heavy weapon, and really fast too. Similar examples are Mace in Dark 2 and Saw Cleaver in BB, they are all weapons that leave heavier weapons in the dust because of being so much faster without any power drawbacks

Every anime vampire I've seen is vunerable to sunlight, some are just so strong they don't die from it due to how strong they are/how fast their regeneration is. Sun is the universal vampire weakness. Everything else like garlic, crosses, running water, etc varies but in general most authors consider those retarded.

A lot of Japanese vampires take inspiration from the Scarlet sisters from Touhou, and Remilia actually likes cross imagery because she's a bit chuuni. They're very weak to sunlight though, a minute or two would be fatal.

The "no sun weakness" thing is shitty Twilight vampires.
