The game did it's job well enough, but the movie is just the cutscenes of the game with some extra scenes to replace the gameplay.

It was the inverse of Sonic Boom, although not quite as extreme. Game turned out great, movie got pushed back a year and was just a forgettably average CG movie. People remember the Sonic Boom game more than the show because it was so awful it became a meme, whereas with Ratchet and Clank they quietly rushed it in and out of theaters.

It wasn't awful but it was also pretty bland and empty feeling. I saw it with a beer so maybe my opinion of it is better than others, although I felt all the scenes had a kind of floaty quality to them and lacked the timing and punctuation of a Disney, Pixar, or Dreamworks movie.

TV is really a much better format for Sly than a movie, because that's what the game's storytelling was modeled after. Now instead of having to cram all that lore and all those characters into an 80 minute movie, they can do it over the course of many episodes, like the games did.
