I just got a job as a video game tester. What should I expect?
You ever hear the term "bottom rung of the ladder" or "entry level"?You'll be considered even less than them.

Your beautiful mother will unbuckle your pants, pretending to be shocked by your erection, whispering "You naughty boy" in a tone that both admonishes and encourages.
fucking detailed reports
being able to communicate properly using words
You're gonna hate video games.
A minimum wage McJob with no benefits that commands no respect.
Which is fine, just don't pretend to be "part of the industry" or whatever. Testers are as much a part of the industry as the janitors and security guards.
Dorkly told me you jump in a corner for 2 hours.
OP, do you live in Portland OR?
Bugs
Never enjoying video games ever again.
>>380550105
low pay and excessive alcohol consumption
You know the worst parts of every game?
Imagine playing nothing but those.
Forever.
And ever.
And they're even worse than you ever thought imaginable.
You will learn to die inside.
/r/equesting the image of the casual game testers that were so bad they had the make the levels easier
I'm one. Working on one of the games that got announced at e3.
The pay is pretty garbage. It's a full 40 hour a week job and you're pretty much going to be making $10/hr. It's a cushy office job, though, just lots of boring report writing and re-playing the same level or few over and over and over until you want to die.
I don't mind it, it's way better than other jobs I worked.

Shit pay, monotonous work, no fun
>>380550105
dumb nene poster
Depends on the company buy most treat their game testers like completely useless retards.
Nintendo of America, for instance. I've had several friends test for them and they said it was an awful place to work.
Microsoft was okay is you kept your head down and never, EVER spoke out of line. Otherwise you instantly get fired.

>it's way better than other jobs I worked
Seriously. Manual labor during heatwaves is not something a human should be doing.

>he isn't already dead on the inside
You have a long way to go my friend.

Microsoft tester here. Can confirm. Shit sucks.

Test department != Playtesters
Test department knows how to break the game in half, playtesters are basically focus groups

Oh I know, but 11.50/hr is more than I was making washing dishes at Dillons.
>>380550442
I already do.

I'm moving to Lynwood, WA fromTopeka, KS

That's already happened. Playing video games is painful because all it does is remind me of everything I ever wanted to do and never did. But hey, this is one more game-related experience I can put on my resume.
>>380550897
I am very accustomed to this already, I've been makingponyvideo games for free for years.
>>380550105
Disappointment and mediocrity. Even AFTER you point out the bugs and glitches in the oncoming builds.
>>380550105
I wish I could have been a playtester when they were developing some of my favorite games ever, so I could have seen lots of beta elements and changes in design.
Look at it from that perspective anon, perhaps you'll also have some cool insight and tidbits to share us in the future. They'll always be with you andhaunting you.
