Nintendo trailers usually showcase game mechanics and If not, you can always watch threehouse. That's why they get a freepass.

Allow me to explain the differences. The order from good to bad:
1. Revealing a highly wanted and anticipated game to confirm it getting made at all.
Examples: Prime, Scalebound, and FF7R.
This is for above average reveals for games that were not expected. Really strong surprises.

2. Revealing a average or expected game to confirm its getting made and showing gameplay.
Examples: Any reveal with gameplay.
This is the standard, the average. Anything with gameplay is considered good, and only the very rare surprises can top it.

3. Revealing a highly predictable game to confirm its getting made, with a cinematic cutscene trailer, focusing on graphics, and having no gameplay. This is considered bad, one because predictable games should have gameplay by then, and two, its better to show nothing then trying to force hype with mediocre or boring games.

So ultimately, its about if its a surprise game or not. People normally do not expect their company to lie to them.
