What I believe is that they don't want another Monster Hunter in the market while World is coming out. Capcom views it as the next mainline game in their series. They want this to succeed here and everything else is unfortunately left in the dust sadly. Japan got XX, because they can make that risk since EVERYONE plays Mh there either way.

It's just monster hunter but without loading screens and weapon arts. The weapons have new moves to make up for the weapon arts and there are tiny damage numbers. Combat is exactly the same as its always been and we've been promised multiple hub cities.

The issue is twofold:
1) Game has largely gone mobile. Biggest global mobile gaming industry, and no, I'm not talking about handhelds, I'm talking about phones. Dedicated video game devices are largely seen as redundant outside of a niche market

2) Really poor Japanese game support up until very recently. It launched with ZERO Japanese games, all Western support. Games like FFXV and Bloodborne are seen as westernized despite being Japanese developed. Wasn't until very recently that it started getting shit like Persona 5. MHW and DQ11 should really propel it. Reminder there is global servers for MHW. With MH so popular in japan and garunteeing 3 million sales over there of super dedicated players+PS4 versions of games always selling 2-3x more, PS4 will have the biggest and best online community for this game. Xbox and PC will get 300k at most and that's just day 1.

Make the right choice and go for the definitive version, the PS4 version.

Handheld have first and foremost always been about how compact they were. Portability was second -- you're as likely to see someone play their handheld in America as you are in Japan. The biggest reason for their love of handhelds come from school children who want to play with their friends, but now that mobile gaming is taking over, the primary focus is returned to the adults.
