Fire emblem: The Blazing sword(aka Fire Emblem in the USA) is a fantastic starting point, featuring a comprehensive tutorial. Alternatively, Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones also has a briefer tutorial and is all around easier.

HP-health. lose it all and your unit dies(permanently)
STR- how much damage you do with physical attacks. this is augmented by your enemy's DEF and your own weapon's MT. In Path of Radiance, STR functions similarly to how CON did in older games, determining how much you're burdened by your weapons.
MAG - how much damage you do with magic tomes, staves, or magic weapons. This is augmented by your enemy's RES.
SKL- your chance to hit with attacks, as well as score crits
SPD- if your SPD is high enough, you'll be able to double-attack enemies, also affects your chance to avoid enemy attacks.
LUK-affects accuracy and avoidability, and reduces enemy crit chance.
DEF-affects defense against physical attacks
RES-affects defense against magical attacks
CON- unit's weight. this affects who they can rescue or be rescued by, as well as whether or not they can shove or be shoved by a unit.

You can get by with any supports you want on Lunatic, my man. I won't argue that it's easier to use as few units as possible and optimal pairs, but that's the nature of the game even at lower difficulties. I had MaMU marry Flora on my first Lunatic playthrough for example.

From what I've heard, they hired a writer and never communicated with them. They got back a whole story, which wouldn't work for a game where you control the main characters and has split paths. And so Nintendo chopped it up without talking to the author about what should be changed. I'd guess that Birthright got the majority of the story (since it is most sensible) while Nintendo writers just put together what they could with Conquest and Revelations.

Of course, I'm just inclined to say that Nintendo can't write for shit and leave it at that. It seems to be fairly consistent. They can do presentation and telling the basics in an amazing way - just look at the Mario RPGs - but when they try piecing together any sort of story past "save the princess", they can't write themselves out of a paper bag.

Archers are the best in this game. Whether it be adventurer anna with shining bow, bow knight niles, or sniper mozu. The raw mt is insane plus they destroy ninjas. Fucc ninjas. My Niles is shit, sadly. I made him a Bow Knight but he still has like 15 STR only. I keep him around for utility, but he's had some of the shittiest level ups in my army. But yeah, bows are stupid strong, I don't think they balanced any of that shit properly. Strangely, I haven't really had that many problem with ninjas. Only with enemy archers doing a fuckton of damage.

I got lucky, my Odin has 29 magic and 24 in every other stat besides res and has 41 hp at lvl 10 as a Sorcerer. He is my tank. I send him up to the frontlines with Nosferatu and an S-rank Elise and everyone tries to kill him due to being a mage and he never takes meaningful damage due to Nosferatu.
