naturally. jesus I cant think of the last time a game flopped this hard
>>380496097
I decided to try it out, but apparently it's sinking back below the 1,000 player mark at alarming speed. Hopefully there's still people to play with when the download finishes.
>>380496449
Was there much advertisement? Seems like everyone who talked about it did so in the context of "Battleborn went F2P, Overwatch held a double XP weekend because fuck those guys".

Is Battleborn the most unwanted game of all time?
>>380503975
The artstyle is so fugly, not to mention the clusterfuck gui. It's really putting me off.
>>380503975

I'm so glad that Battleborn is on a free trial, I got to play this awesome game with all sorts of awesome people, that's why I bought the full version, to support such a badass game and a badass developer.
How do you think things would have turned out if they went free ""trial"" from launch, or at least way earlier?
Surely it didn't take them an entire year to realize they weren't an actual contender on the full-price videogame market?
>>380504557

Battleborn shitposting is best shitposting
does it have more than 1.5 maps to play on?
>>380505326
>best shitposting
Don't you mean badass shitposting?
>>380505520
Yes. There's probably 4-8 or so. I've played on three for incursion (the moba mode). DESU, it needs them too. The maps add more depth because there isn't very much in the heroes, level builds, and items.
>>380505520
I think the matchmaker now picks random gamemodes and maps, so they wouldn't have the entire game population doing one thing.
>>380505042
There'd hopefully at least be enough people for them to not consider removing the ability to pick the game mode you want to play, and thus enough people for matchmaking to not take ten minutes, which is about where it was when I stopped a month in.
But then I remember this is Gearbox we're talking about, so if player count didn't fall off as fast, they'd still find some way to make the game unplayable outside of insufferable Incursion-only faggots.
Now not even they can play Battleborn so I guess all is right in the world.

I'm sure there is a reason why Battleborn doesn't have a general.
I just don't know why.
>Have a mechanically sound game
>Ruin it with shitty visual design and writing
>Ruin it further with poorly handled PR
It's a tragedy. A funny one, sure, but a tragedy nonetheless. Does that make it a tragicomedy?

>>380507134
> That one time someone on /v/ made an ironic Battleborn General and it lasted for a few hours before the shitposting died
Just think, there's a universe out there where:
>Overwatch was a colossal failure that put Blizzard on the brink of bankrupty
>Battleborn is the most popular game of all time
>Threads on /v/ ">ywn be anthony burch ;_;"
>Todd tells the truth
>tfw nobody wants to join the battle.
Now that the free to play ploy failed, will that be the final nail in the coffin?
Will Randy release a statement?
>>380508324
>tfw they join the battle 2 hours later
>it's incursion
>10 minutes of running in a straight line shooting down the hallway
>>380506817
This for days.
>>380496097
>when Todd makes fun of you 5-6 years early
>>380508635
It took them more than a year to go free to play, and even then, they refused to call it that. I'm betting they'll let this one ride a good long while.
Anyone got that script with his kid?
Overwatch and battleborn are both shit, I am sure battleborn is fun but I am sure it has the same problem as over watch where its entirely white knight faggots that suck at video games and keeps the level of competition and skill ceiling low for non professionals. Im sure battleborn is worse in that regard though because randy pitchford.
I honestly feel bad for randy what did he do to deserve this

>>380498225
Mirage did, a couple of weeks ago.
Then again, the budget for that is nothing compared to Battleborn.
>>380503975
The fact that Battleborn is a thing and that Randy is still pushing it is mind-boggling to me. It feels like it's some sort of parody or a joke of some sort, but it's real.

>>380507992
How much did Blizz even invest in OW?
I mean, they scrapped it together from Titan right?
Most of the cash might have frankly gone to marketing.
Should I be actually healing as Beatrix?
She looks cool as fuck but I don't feel like I'm actually doing anything with her.
I get alot of assists, Is that ok?

>>380510726
Does she even heal? I picked her once for shits and didn't see any heals, just some attack speed/defense buff.
I'll always love you Orendi
You'd say
I'm puttin you on
It's no joke
you're doin' me harm
>>380510564
The game probably didn't even cost all that much for a AAA title. Marketing was easily double the budget of the development. Titan before it got cancelled had a budget around $50 million, and MMOs tend to be much more expensive to make than most other genres. Then if you fact in that the team was cut in half, and that it took 3 years to make, you'r probably looking at something between $20 million to $35 million
>try free trial
>only one game mode because fuck you

>>380509924
on the topic of these, what are some other great character designs that you wish could be taken from Battleborn and put into other, better games?
(Oscar Mike > Soldier 76)
>>380511438
They force you to play the dead-simple game mode until level 20 because one of the biggest things that killed this game was people's inability to comprehend the other game mode's objective.
I would say it's worth getting past 20 to play Meltdown but you are forced into a random game mode queue.
So, to answer your question, it's fucking garbage and you should probably stop while you're still kind of ahead.
>>380511770
Voice acting is pretty bad though for benedict. I'd expect it to be sort of bird like.
>>380512149
Bad? Not what I expected, but I wouldn't call it bad.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wJ3AF06GvyQ
>>380496097
So why do you hate battleborn? The game is actually great.
>>380511415
And how much would that be without the marketing then? 7 to 10 millions? That's pretty cheap for what was probably the most successful of last year. Then again, it was really thin on content, even if what it did have was super polished.
I wonder what the turnover rate for each dollar they invested into it was.
>>380512509
It used to be okay. It's shit now. It's always been a meme.
>>380512536
Have you played the game recently? I'd almost agree with you a year ago, but it's irredeemable at this point due to gameplay and queue changes.
>>380506973

She does helix helix option to go for 30% healing or 30% damage reduction (which sounds better overall)
She can also go self healing I think.
Maybe I'm just too used to Overwatch where support = healer.

>>380513019
And that's just my opinion, what about it?
I've been shitting on this game all thread.
>>380512509
Honestly its pretty alright
Its a shame since every single one of its faults come down to a low player base.
Its a self-defeating prophecy, I can't really recommend it becuase of the low player base.
>>380503539
>basically says the memer isn't an asshole because he isn't as popular
Man, Randy needs to stop and think about these things before tweeting them.
>>380512859
Oh, I completely misread that and just gave the defense buff to people in front while sniping from further back.
It's 30% defense to 40% lifesteal, but I'm still inclined to agree that defense is going to generally be more useful.
>>380512536
I think that moba-shooter is not a combo that should be attempted again. or at least go way tamer on the moba aspects. the crossover on audiences is obviously zero.
>>380513203
...Were they doing server maintenance a few minutes before, or something?

>>380513595
Yeah, Life rip sounds good on paper but damage reduction means they don't actually need to land the shots and helps as a "get away".
Its just kinda disheartening when we go on the results screen and my names flashes up with "Healing given: 0" ;_;
>>380496097
Battleborn is BADASS
>>380503095
Also Payday 2 being free for the past few day probably hasn't done it any favors.
>>380513924
No, it's just that I thought they had been hovering around 600-700 or so. That seems like quite a dip, considering.
>>380513203
I think its had a peak of 750 when I last checked but was only on about 250 players.
In all honesty it doesn't take that long to get a game even with just 250~
I played about an hour today and got 3 games, once you're in a lobby the matches just start rolling in.
I think it's interesting that gearbox didn't make any appearance at E3 at all. My thought is the failure of Battleborn set them back far more then what Randy wants to admit. At this rate maybe will actually get lucky and the studio will finally close. Borderlands 3 isn't happening. They don't have the funds for it after wasting them on Stillborn.
>>380512856
>human
Oscar Mike's a purple ayy like Whisky Foxtrot
>>380514292
The game is beyond dead. Even Evolve lasted a little longer before it sank back down.
>>380513813
i dont know what happened but it went back to "player count so low steam doesnt track it anymore". thought we'd have another week before that happened.
>>380514914
The game is an awful combination of terrible artstyle with seizure inducing UI. There is absolutely no surprise of it failing.
>>380514084
It doesn't help that people expect supports to be heal bots even in this game, and even Miko is better off occasionally taking a supportive combat role as opposed to just mashing Q while holding right-click.
>>380514292
It's going around as high as 650, low as 250 right now, and seems to be trending slightly negatively if not neutral. Down by about 600 on the high end from the F2P launch.
A lot of the players were returning vets, but the game has somehow become even worse since launch, so you have this surge of hopeful players who have nothing good to say about the current state of the game, outside of "I hope this game gets enough players so Gearbox can justify making it better."
Seeing as they had an okay product and actively made it worse since we left, though, that isn't going to happen.
>>380514460

>>380510061

>>380515507
>tech demo
They literally showed next to nothing. Any developer can make a tech demo. A full game it doesn't make. They lost a lot of money on Battleborn. Money that was stolen from Aliens no less too. Randy would never openly admit they are in trouble hence why he's been so quiet. Randy is paying the price for all the scumbag horseshit he's done.
>>380515580On /v/'s favourite website its pretty baffling to see the fan base look down on Paladins
They seem to think they haven't sunk as low as Paladins have and poke fun at how its a Poor mans Overwatch or for for people who can't afford video games.
They also thought the only reason BB was so as bad as it was in the F2P stage was that OW had a double XP event going on
Alot thought the player base was going to skyrocket when the event ended.
>>380514460
Well, between Battleborn, the Duke 3D remaster, and the Bulletstorm remaster, they're definitely on the ropes.
>>380516881
Not baffling at all if you put in hours of gameplay before the addition of essence. Any level-headed person knew Hi-Rez was going to fuck it all up eventually, but there's a first time for everyone.
>>380515592
no, but they do have eyes, and playing battleborn is probably the virtual equivalent of watching a GoPro on a badass firework voiced by ashley burch
>>380516881
Hi-Rez will never be respected here and thats how it should be
>>380516881
I still dont know why they called Battleborn going F2P a Free Trial. Thats the dumbest idea possible and makes people think its just a demo or free weekend, and they announced it before E3 at the same time as the Pokemon direct.
>>380516881
inb4 someone tries to claim paladins is better than battleborn. Paladins is complete shit.
>>380517735
Pride.
I'm aware of the irony, but that's the simple truth of the matter here.
>>380517217
What irritates me about this is that there's probably actual competent people, or better than the others at least, that aren't in positions to make changes to their games.
>>380518016
still not playing your game
>>380517735
I think they see it as admitting failure. Which I guess it is, but something tells me owning it and moving forward would have been a better option than getting snippy over terminology on Twitter.
>>380518292
The same could be said for any of the games discussed in this thread. When you turn game development into a game of business politics and graphs, this shit happens.
Sure, games are services rendered to consumers with the ultimate goal of achieving a profit, but it wouldn't hurt to make the game enjoyable every now and then.
I'm so sick of this bullshit. The game is good. I just want to play it. In order to play it I need to be able to find matches. To find matches there needs to be more players. How do I get more people to play this game? at least enough that I can find matches and play?
>>380511770
El Dragon, Phoebe, Marquis, Benedict, Alani and Oscar come to mind immediately.
Orendi and Attikus as well, if they got a (Major in Attikus' case) design rework and changed Orendi's voice.

>>380518991
Except the game has proven on every facet to be a unmitigated failure. At this point your burning money for the sake of. Gearbox is obviously in a bad spot because of this game. Which I'm glad. They will never suffer enough for all the bad they've done to the industry and once great IPs.
>>380518991
I'm not saying it isn't a bitter pill, but at some point, they probably should have swallowed it. Instead, they have the co-op mode gated behind a 30USD digital download, while physical copies go for about 5. Seems a little optimistic.
