In all seriousness, this isn't a surprise and shouldn't be. Not that Sony did it, but that one of the big name companies just said 'fuck off' to E3. I kind of expect others are going to follow suit.

Why?

Because why compete for, and risk losing, having the best and biggest game of the year to be revealed? Why vie for any sort of publicity when you can just do your own big event, see the same sort of crowds, and not have to jockey other big name brands for elbow space? We're going to see Microsoft, Nintendo, and Sony start to reveal their big name stuff at their own events rather than E3 more and more now. Effectively, E3 is losing the point it once had because now these big companies can just do their own shows and see the same sort of interest and numbers. Sure, we'll get bones and scraps at E3, but you would be better off focusing on the individual events and shit that Nintendo, Microsoft, and Sony put on if you want to see the really good stuff.

E3 is a thing of the past. I don't have a horse in this race, but I see the writing on the wall.
