You should play Order of Ecclesia, it's great. But here's a summary of what happened (spoilers obviously):
>Shanoa lost her memories and emotions due to being the vessel for Dominus, a manifestation of Dracula's powers, which took her memories and emotions as a sacrifice
>Albus tried to stop her from becoming the vessel so he could take her place, but ends up becoming the bad guy with greater motives when he is denied this
>She kills Albus mid-game and some real shit I won't spoil goes down
>By the end of the game, after fighting Dracula, she unleashes Dominus' powers to defeat him and ends up dying as Dominus sacrifices its user's life to use its powers
>Except she doesn't die, because Albus' spirit saved her and recovered her sacrificed memories and emotions in a split moment
>He reveals that he was her brother (not by birth) and swore to protect her, and did everything he could the entire game to ensure her safety even if his methods were questionable
>His final request before departing forever is asking Shanoa to smile for him one last time, something she has been unable to do the entire game because she lost her emotions
