The first game had great characters and okay story with an interesting theme. It was in a sci-fi environment with different species, aka every sci fi ever, so it's given it was multicultural. It's a trite theme even by 90s.

Now they took that fact of multiculturalism and overblown it to be the game's actual theme, if we are to judge it by the trailer and the lead writer dyke. Its characters then become puppets and not fleshed out personalities. Like that monkey in the trailer: too much, no sublety but in your face stereotype establishing in a rude way. Yes, rude, because it insults you by its obviousness, by its unrelenting attempts to make itself out to be what it is even if you already understood by the first few moments. It's obtuse.
