So Oblivion has switched from being garbage like it's always been to a beloved RPG now on /v/ because of nostalgia
How long until Skyrim becomes the greatest RPG ever on /v/?
>>380478854
Give it at least 5 more years
>>380478854
when tes 6 comes out and is so shit that Skyrim looks like the greatest game ever compared to it.
Just like when Skyrim came out people now think Oblivion is a great RPG because it's better than Skyrim, not realizing that both games are garbage to begin with and Oblivion is just less garbage than Skyrim
>>380478854
Blame the millenials. This site is mainly underage
I still hate oblivion and skyrim, and I played oblivion as my first TES game
The only good TES games are Daggerfall, Morrowind, and TESO
>>380478854
"muh Oblivion sidequests" is probably the plebbiest opinion that is somewhat widespread on /v/.
Oblivion had uniformly terrible quests. No branching, no meaningful choices, no conflicting quests, no mutually-exclusive questlines, the quests that offer genuine multiple solutions can be counted on two hands. Even Fallout 3 had better quests.
You like the writing and locales? Good for you, but that does not make for good RPG questlines. May as well praise GTA's 'questlines' while you're at it. They're on about the same complexity level.
>>380478854
Oblivion is salavageable, but games in general have gotten so shitty that Oblivion is decent now. You are also recalling the hateboner people had on release, as opposed to the final opinion after SI launched.
Skyrim will never be considered a masterpiece, ever. Games can't get much worse than they are right now. Even if the next TES has literally 3 stats to raise (combat, stealth, magic) and is a massive turd, people aren't going to be saying Skyrim is good. It's just too bad to recover. The problem is Skyrim does not FEEL like a proper Elder Scrolls game. Oblivion still had the signature comfy elder scrolls feeling, and the music to back it up.
>>380480070
>Oblivion is salavageable
it really isn't
legit worse than skyrim
>>380480618
Sure thing, buddy.
>>380478854
>So Oblivion has switched from being garbage like it's always been to a beloved RPG now on /v/ because of nostalgia
So has Halo. This board is full of retards who only like PC exclusive semi-obscure early 2000's gimmick trash and porn simulators. That Oblivion can be discussed at all without devolving into faggot babies shitting their pants about Morrowind not being discussed (because they never played any TES game released before that) is a miracle. Every "rate my taste" and the like threads are full of insecure teenagers who parrot "/v/core" lists in the hope of not appearing to be uncool or segregated, fucking pathetic.
>>380478854
The second after TES6 is released.
>>380478854
I liked Oblivion from day one. Fallout 3, too.
Skyrim is the best rpg ever made tho
>>380478854
People always liked Oblivion, stop trying to rewrite history.
>>380481146
Give it a year or two afterwards, I'd say. The consensus will be "this is worse than Skyrim", day 1 but Skyrim won't constantly receive undue praise at least for a little while.
>>380479491
>no branching
which TES had this? are you talking about the various houses in morrowind? ya, real branching there
>no meaningful choices
again which TES are you referring to that had this? i cant think of any
>Even Fallout 3 had better quests.
the only quest i can think of is that human tree quest where if you choose to continue his torment a total of about 3 trees start growing outside the cave.
The ending was fucking hilarious though
>have to go in and die
>tell companion to go
>companion: lol no, you go
>bring mutant companion for just this reason whose immune to radiation
>mutant: lol no, you have to die; destiny and shit
>choose robot; roll creits
OH BOY! SUCH A GREAT ENDING!
>>380481532
I think it will be at its worst right at release. Just look at GTA V and Star Wars Ep7.
Fallout 3 is shit though, cant even fucking ADS
>>380481895
I'm not comparing it to other TES games, I'm comparing it to RPGs in general. As RPG quests, Oblivion's sidequests are absolutely wretched.
>>380478854
>still can't play with a gamepad
I just want to becomfy
>>380482336
not to mention oblivion quests literally have two outcomes when interacting with npcs
it's either
>kill them
or
>speech them
>>380479393
Morrowind is so fucking bad. That is the most overrated piece of shit on this board.
>>380479491
What an idiot. Quests don't require branching or meaningful choices to be good. Good story, good characters, and interaction are the main stuff.
>morrowfags will defend this
>>380480618
"i don't even particularly like morrowind"
hmm yet he spent the time to write this pathetic rant, and some remaining reserves of austism left to transform it into a game-themed image. really, REALLY makes you think
>>380482482
Or better yet
>speech them TO DEATH
>>380478854
Enough mods have been made for Oblivion that it's somewhat enjoyable. Vanilla is dogshit though. Same might happen with Skyrim, but that remains to be seen.
>>380482678
So San Andreas and Call of Pripyat had some of the best RPG sidequests of all time? Are you genuinely retarded?
Also:
>oblivion
>passable story, characters and interactions
LMAO @ ur life
>>380482336
there was the:
whodunit quest
there was the Painted land quest
there was the Whole Dark Brotherhood Betrayal Arc
there was the Shivering isles expansion
other than the human tree in Fallout 3 and maybe exploding megaton i cant remember a single meaningful quest
>quest giver: go into the undeground railway!
>me: 'sigh' and kill more ghouls?
>quest giver: to kill more ghouls and retrieve the widget!
>>380483009

>>380483009
*sighs* It's another /v/, "thinks everything is dogshit" episode
>>380483137
The first one you listed is the only passable sidequest in the entire game.
Painted land quest consists of running around and hitting orcs with your sword, only the game calls them painted orcs and their textures are a little funny. No different from the average Skyrim quest, other than surface-level aesthetic stuff to fool the plebs into thinking it's something unique.
>>380478854
Play Skyrim for years then go back to Oblivion for a bit and it felt like it was the greatest thing ever because it had all the shit that bethesda cut out to casualize the game. It's still bad but it's better than Skyrim.
people who shit talk Oblivion should try replaying it
its an enjoyable game
>>380483394
Vanilla is dogshit though, the level scaling ruins the entire game.
>>380483394
back the fuck off yadayada
>>380483658
i played it before skyrim and after morrowind
honestly it's just unsalvageable, the main quest sucks shit, the progression sucks shit, the armors and weapons are uglier than the NPCs and mods do not make aimless wandering as entertaining as in modded Skyrim
>>380484927
>mods do not make aimless wandering as entertaining as in modded Skyrim
not true
>>380479123
TES 6 will be great now that Bethesda has higher-ed the communities top modders, they may be able to save it from being complete shit
>>380484927
but this is all just wrong
>>380485448
there's no reason for them to change anything, if a game like Skyrim or Fallout 4 are to be considered one of the best ever, why should they put any effort on making TES 6 great? just do the same shit and it will get praised
>elder babies think that Morrowind's miss system is bad
>>380478854
Oblivion is OK but the magic, skills, equpment variety, quests, and map all suck compared to Morrowind. I think Skyrim is funner than Oblivion.
Oblivion has always been the best TES game to me. Skyrim has always been garbage too.
Fuck off OP

Why does everyone use millenials when they really mean Gen Z-ers?
>>380480618
I like Oblivion because of its modding community, Deadly Reflex, Jeremy Soule's music and because I can play as a cute petite elf.I'm halfway through making a mod with 5+ hours worth of content
>>380486924
Millennial has become the new 'summerfag' buzzword insult, except in this case it applies all year round now. People who unironically use those terms should not be taken seriously.
>>380487043
Is it particularly oriented towards combat/quests/puzzles/etc? I'd play it.
>>380485160
>>380485474
great argument faggots
Oblivion doesn't have anything even close to real needs and diseases, frostfall or camping for skyrim, the lack of crafting at all or make it a shit outdoors simulator.
also you can't mod the missing weapon kinds back in, and there aren't any realistic armor and clothing replacers to get rid of the absolutely hideous trash like this
>>380487642
Are you actually retarded or just baiting? Either way you still look retarded.

And there are dozens of armor replacers and retextures as well. Vanilla clothing also looks perfectly fine, I'm convinced you're just shitposting at this point.
Stop posting.
>>380487191
Somewhat, one of the dungeons I've done takes around 40 minutes for me to complete assuming no additional exploration. I feel the vanilla dungeons are quite short.
>>380488050
>RP mods with no actual gameplay impact

garbage
and name one good armor replacer, REPLACER not just retextures.
>>380488328
I'm done spoonfeeding. It's just fueling your autistic screeching. Read further into what I posted and then fuck off you pathetic loser.
If you'll excuse me, I'm off to enjoy my modded Oblivion because I put the effort in to make it better than Skyrim and Morrowind.
>>380488610
you got nothing of course, the only good armor mods for oblivion are those for the city guards and they don't cover the majority of those abominations
go play with your skimpy anime mods you delusional loser

Any decent mods for Oblivion?
I want to replay it, but I feel like it'll look like shit now since I played Skyrim modded so hard

Yeah I don't get it either.
Most millenials are at least approaching or are mid 20s to early 30s now.

Modded Oblivion looks as good as modded Skyrim.
>>380488176
To elaborate, there are some puzzles (some of them requiring a bit of skill) in the dungeon and the combat is tuned towards Deadly Reflex.
I'm still in the design/building phase and it's progressing rather slowly because IRL stuff.

>>380490176
you should see the Morrowind one
>>380489629
>Modded Oblivion looks as good as modded Skyrim.
No it doesn't and probably never will. The game doesn't have dynamic shadows on objects (ShadeMe doesn't work properly), and ENB will never be finished.
It can look pretty good but don't lie.
>>380490545
Link.
>>380478854
Oblivion has always been praised on /v/, quiet minority hated it (rightfully so)
Skyrim has been shit on since day 1, but /v/ always talks about their in game experiences, mostly cuz of mods.
The one franchise that /v/ consistently flip flops on is Zelda. Remember when this place fucking hated Twlight Princess?
We you see a pile of shit, it's a pile of shit. Some time later you come across an altogether more foul and offensive pile of shit. Suddenly the previous pile of shit doesn't seem so terrible by comparison.
As someone who started with Skyrim why is it so hated? I thought the mechanics were fairly complicated and there were so many things you can do in a playthrough.
>>380490598
https://pastebin.com/7gF2VLaf
and this one has a few corrections for that guide
https://pastebin.com/5diKftC7
i was thinking of making an even further edited correction guide because there are many dead links, broken things that now have fixes, and outdated info now that isn't covered in either guide
>>380490596
Well it'll always have better quest
>>380478854
I'm planning on doing a "serious" playthrough of this game for the first time, should I mod it or leave it vanilla(besides the unofficial patches)? I have the GOTY edition for both PC and PS3, but I'm using a laptop atm so no graphical mods for now.
>>380490903
>someone who started with Skyrim
>why is it so hated?
Hard to explain since you might not understand unless you've played DND.
Go play Oblivion, Daggerfall and Morrowind in that order.
You'll understand.
>>Oblivion has always been praised on /v/, quiet minority hated it (rightfully so)
Oblivion has always been a laughing stock among the fantasy RPG fans with a core of dedicated hardcore fans who were capable of throwing away time trying to fix it
Oblivion is still an rpg, skyrim removed so much it's not even funny. That to me makes oblivion atleast mediocre and I can see why people like It as a rpg.
>>380490301
This. Every chart I've seen has generations starting at different times
>>380478854
Never because they keep releasing Skyrim over and over again. It makes it harder to forget about its flaws when they keep putting out a 6 year old game for $60 with pretty much zero improvements.
>>380491407
Mod it so it becomes playable.
>>380479393
>TESO
>good
Hahahaha
>>380490903
I love skyrim (mostly thanks to mods), but it's a garbage RPG. Nothing you do has a consequence, even choosing between vampire or werewolf is easily changable through a single conversation. Play New Vegas, play Morrowind, play VtmB, play Fallout, play Deus Ex, play Gothic 2.
Play better video games.
>>380491420
>Oblivion has always been a laughing stock among the fantasy RPG fans
Like I said, Oblivion has been praised by /v/ since the majority of /v/ back in the day was console oriented and haven't experienced an open world first person RPG.
It's a game with a lot of flaws but that doesn't stop RPG virgins from gushing over it.
>>380491740
Alright, so in that case I'll probably add in Realistic Levelling and something to fix the scaling at the very minimum. What's your opinion on Supreme Magicka?
>>380491976
I'd rather have no consequences over having to do multiple playthroughs to experience all the content. Ain't got time for that.
>>380492387
Not him but it's easily the best magic mod
>>380491419
>Go play Oblivion, Daggerfall and Morrowind in that order.
shit advice
play them on release order, then you'll learn what was lost along the way
>>380492478
>being this casual
You are why video games are dying.
>>380492638
What's wrong with being casual? Without casual players the game industry would be far far smaller. All those super cool big budget games would have never existed.
>>380492887
>All those super cool big budget games would have never existed.
so things would be better off?
>>380492887
All those "super cool big budget games" are what's wrong with the industry. They cost so much to make they need to sell millions, and to sell millions they get dumbed down to appeal to the widest possible audience, aka retarded casual normalfags. Is this bait?
>>380492502
>shit advice
I'm playing them in release order after coming from Skyrim and I'm having a great time. Most people who've only played Skyrim probably haven't played many DOS/retro games and it might overwhelm them.
Go to Oblivion first so you can get a way better idea of what to expect before you dive into the good games.
>>380492887
>No casuals
>Big budget AAA stripmilks
>Things like Evolve, C&C, and Spore, would not be gutted
>>380493112
what he said
>>380492638
How is wanting to experience the game in one playthrough casual?
>>380493973
People like you are why Mass Effect 3 was garbage. Please pic related.
The cracks and flaws of oblivion show so much more playing it 10 years after release.
First off the player scaling is horible... I play RPGs to get stronger, to fight that one monster that raped me at the beginning of the game. My most memorable moments Were Baldurs Gate, getting destroyed by the demon knight only to come back more powerful and beat him. In oblivion that never happens... Mobs scale with you and you feel like a weak pos all the time. On top of this ogres stop leveling after level 25 and just multiply their health pool until they become sponges.
Another thing is radiant AI... Over hyped to high hell. Felt like Bethesda focused so much on this that their game felt super shallow and empty. The imperial city was not imperial at all when it only had like 6 npcs per district.
>>380493612
>Most people who've only played Skyrim probably haven't played many DOS/retro games and it might overwhelm them.
Most people don't even know how to set up a DOS game and by the time they do they would know what to expect.
it's not like it's literal prompts of text on a black screen, for a sprite based game there's a lot of visuasl conveying what's happening
>>380491634
>>380490301
Wrong, there is only one answer
Millenials are people born between the early 80s and late 90s. That's it. 1999 is gen Z. 1982 or before is gen x going back to boomers. Christ this shit is common fucking knowledge.
It's not that bad.
