I just typically buy consoles a generation behind and don't mind waiting a month or so to pick up a new handheld game. I think the closest-to-release-date game I've picked up so far was Hyrule Warriors Legends or a Vita musou

Usually I would buy it just on principle, but this gives me second thoughts.

I'm confident the game will be good, what's been shown so far is true to the series.
I think Mercurysteam will do just fine with Nintendo overseeing it. Next Level Games made a shitty captain america game, they also made Punch Out.
I feel Federation Force is an outlier.

Counter doesn't look like it's unbalanced, it's just something you have to do to more quickly stop damage. Enemies seem to rush at you a lot more often, and in a few of those situations just jumping usually won't get you out of harm's way. Think of it like the dodges in Prime, they're just something you have to do to avoid damage now.
