Just ordered Robobot and it's going to arrive today. Thank you based Amazon.

Nobody? Kirby suffers from the same problem the new Yoshi games suffer from.

They are far too easy and get boring after 2 hours

Kirby games are always easy.

Then you unlock extra mode.

Wooly world Star S level waa pretty tough. A couple levels gave me some trouble, but yeah kinda easy. Have Rainbow Curse but pkayed a bit and turned it off. Not being able to look at the tv and play was a let down.

because the majority of kirby games are either mini games that gets turned into full games or spin offs that almost no one cares about

The BING BING WAHOO meme is a stupid meme to begin with, and Kirby has pretty consistent quality compared to most of Nintendo's other IPs

When they just threw this in out of left-field my neighbors must have thought I have contracted tourettes that night, I couldn't contain my excitement.

I knew Kirby was coming and had kind of expected to see Kirby in the Spotlight since they had announced a 3DS co-op action game earlier this year, even though it was said to be fully Switch focused. When I saw the HD and everything it finally kicked in.

The only thing that might sour it for me is them making it local co-op only. PLEASE make it work online, I beg you.

I was excited but seeing the trailer again makes me think that the combinations arent like in 64. Looks more like you can "infuse" some abilites with elements rather than creating brand new moves.

Honestly the first Kirby game I've been interested in for a long time. Seems like a mix of 64 and Super Star.
>>
>>380445687

Yeah, I'm pretty sure they are limited use/temporary powerups that you initiate with the enemies you recruit.
Could be pretty interesting trying to find the best combination of party members/combination abilities. But it could also be pretty frustrating the way 64 was, requiring a specific combination of abilities to unlock something.
>>
>>380442232
Seeing the cleaning and water abilities along with mixing making a return is good to see. If it has the RtD style extra mode this could be the best one yet

The only problem i have with the new kirby tho based on what ive seen is that they aren't taking the superstar/2005 kirby trailer approach to enemies
in those games there are always like 3-5 different enemies on screen at any time, its why kirby has so much health. cause you are always getting hit
you can see that design element in the cancelled kirby game trailer https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9OejfMhymWE [Embed]
but in the new kirby https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cc3PAAije0Y [Embed] it looks like planet robobo/triple deluxe/return to dreamland where its gunna be a lot less enemies rushing you yet kirby still gets a lot of health. Its what makes the newer Kirby games far more boring than their older counter parts.
Because in the end kirby games are about having a shitload of health since you are supposed to be getting hit constantly. hopefully the combining powers makes up for it tho or the footage we saw were from the 1st couple levels (even tho the first couple levels in superstar still has the overwhelming amount of enemies thing going on)
the only thing that nintendo can fuck up now is if they decide to make their games TOO easy. nothing can save a game from not being boring if its too easy no matter how cool the graphics design content and everything else is. because gameplay is key above literally everything else. fingers crossed they dont fuck up and find the sweet spot like they did in the gamecube era
>>
>>380449328
I think speed is the only thing that makes Kirby boring. If Kirby wasn't so fucking slow I'd enjoy it more.

Shoving a lot of enemies on the screen = good level design.
That just makes getting blindsided and getting overwhelmed way easier.
>>
>>380449328
I understand your point, but I still feel the new 3D games had enough besides enemies to their levels to not be dull.

Level design in Kirby always was hard to analyze since it is based on Kirby being able to fly.

If its your wish to know, that's because Nova has been drifting in space for a long time, and eventually pulled things into its orbit. Since its a living Power Generator/Wish Master, they just became a part of him. Star Dream is relatively newer, and hasn't had the opportunity to drift in space collecting space garbage.

But that can change, if something, I dunno like a planet were to blow up or something.

You know what that means?
Time to blow up Popstar

the whole point of kirby is that you have a ton of health and you power through tons of enemies, its what makes the game fun. its literally why you have so much health, because there are tons of enemies and you will get hit a lot. You obviously know jack shit about game design

Lore wise, I think the Halcondrians really didn't like Popstar, and its just in the programming of Clockwork Stars to hate Popstar too.

Coming from Mr. Game Developer over here.
The later Kirby games are fun despite having less enemies.
Hell, I'd argue that aside from Adventure and Super Star, the earlier Kirby games are overall less fun for a variety of reasons despite having more enemies.
That's why I said having more enemies =/= good level design.

>But none of the last three games have shitty controls, lackluster powerups, and tedious 100% completion requirements.
I'll give you the controls are polished, but once you actually get in-depth with the games, all the power ups feel exactly the same, with a standard power, a dash attack that grants invincibility, several powers sharing the same exact animation, and the only real difference that stems from powers end up existing solely for collecting garbage, which adds onto the needless tedium that's achieving 100%.

The only positive these new Kirby games have is True Arena, and even then that doesn't mean much considering how samey all the powers feel compared to one another.

This is a fair critique, but the fact that it uses Superstar style movesets helps increase the variety tremendously compared to older Kirby games.

All of four power ups in DL3 are practical to use, and they still aren't nearly as varied and complex and SS's style of power ups.
And don't tell me powers in DL3 weren't used for shitty puzzles. And in fact, I'd say it's worse there as a lot of the time you need a power that isn't in the level, and you'd also need to keep that power up for almost the entire level.

SS's are way better in terms of versatility and overall enjoyment.

For example, sure turning Pitch into a Remote Control is cool and unique, but since you can't attack and move at the so time, you need to constantly stop to kill enemies and that dramatically slows down the game.

Meanwhile you can do a shit ton of things with Poison and you can keep up the pace as you can move while using some of it's attacks. It has way more utility and more options to play with.
>>
>>380458048
Two completely different games. Adventure is, not only the first Kirby game to incorperate power-ups, but also took many notes from its predecessor, Dream Land, with the game being somewhat challenging in the sense of how levels were structured, and getting hit actually meant something. Not to say that it's comparable to Dark Souls of course.

Amazing Mirror actually pushed for exploration for the standard game completion instead of what we get with the newer games, holding right and stopping every so often when you either see a collectable or something out of place, and with its level structure being so radically different at the time, the only thing comparable is The Great Cave Offensive.

Nor him, but I found AM to be far too cryptic for a Kirby Game, maybe even a Metroid Game. You pretty much need a guide to collect 100% that game.
It also doesn't help that IMO Kirby's gameplay is too simple to work in a large scale game like that. Kirby was designed with short levels in mind, and I feel like that's because Kirby is too simple of a character for him to not feel stale after a while. This is only magnified with Kirby's simple Adventure styled powers. If it they had Super Star's powerups it would be a lot less boring.
>>
>>380458649
I actually dislike DL3, my critique was aimed more at the newer Kirby games (RtDL, TD and Robobot)

Not only was Super Star the first game to really expand on moves, but they were still in a simplistic stage where each power up felt like its own thing. And while there are some unique power ups in the newer games that I did actually enjoy, such as Poison and Doctor, the core game follows the same formula where you aren't allowed to have your favorite power ups throughout the entire stage, and are forced to switch to something else just because you NEED that collectable.

I love Super Star, and hold it as my personal favorite game, because not only do power ups feel unique and fun to mess around with, but you're allowed so much freedom due to not being restricted for power ups (besides Great Cave, but even then you could be a minimalist there and still achieve 100% game completion) and while having collectables isn't a bad thing, it ends up slowing down the game itself, which people still to this day argue is already childish and slow.

If they just remade Super Star and added new levels and powers I'd be happy. But they keep making the games very similar to 64 and DL3, where you're forced to go out of your way for these collectables just for the true end, which really isn't fun.
>>
>>380458706
I still kind of hate Amazing Mirror. I was a stupid kid who didn't realize there was a map, but I went back and played it and found that the map is pretty balls.

It isn't bad by any means and good on them for trying new stuff, but I prefer Nightmare in Dreamland any day.

The ultimate sword makes it a lot less tedious. If you figure out early that you can zoom in on the map and differentiate in-and-out doors from one-way doors you can easily plan your route to collect everything pretty swiftly.

One thing that you really need to do is go immediatly activate the teleporters once you got the map of the world, if you don't you'll realize later in the game that you can't go back in a chosen world as easy as you thought you would.

They're barely alike.

One, TD only really has this issue during Hypernova sections, which I agree is pretty stupid. But the few times where you nerd a regular copy ability to obtain a collectable, the ability is fun on its own. And don't pretend that Super Star didn't do this either. Remember when you HAD to have fire for hammer to progress through MKR?
>I love Super Star, and hold it as my personal favorite game, because not only do power ups feel unique and fun to mess around with, but you're allowed so much freedom due to not being restricted for power ups (besides Great Cave, but even then you could be a minimalist there and still achieve 100% game completion) and while having collectables isn't a bad thing, it ends up slowing down the game itself, which people still to this day argue is already childish and slow.
I feel like collectables gives the game more depth. Though I guess they might be considered padding in that instance.

Anyone else find it surprisingly un-HAL with how clunky the game looks? Just look at that heart mechanic. Why wouldn't they just keep the simpler and more versatile SS helper system? Also what's with needing a helper to perform a combo ability? Do you need to escort a dumbass AI to a puzzle area to get a collectable? That's gonna be fucking annoying.

Kirby definitely has that instant gratification going on. Kirby is an adaptive monster. Eat some fire guys, become a fire dude. Eat a superhero guy, become a high-jumping thing. He can swap forms and change himself very quickly, and it's a versatile, powerful, and most of all fun gameplay mechanic that makes playing as him consistently enjoyable and satisfying, as he steals powers from others and uses them to their fullest.

Mega Man meanwhile doesn't have that sort of thing going on since he tends to rely a lot more on his innate abilities, but there's a strong sense of overall progression in the games since the powers he acquires are permanent. He'll be using his main jumping and shooting abilities for the most part, but by the time you reach Wily's Castle, he's got a whole arsenal of attacks gained from the foes he's felled and conquered, making him ready for any situation. The level design and the power design also means there's certain platforming challenges, certain enemies, and certain bosses that can be overcome quicker or easier by using the right ability for the situation, arguably making Mega Man's use of abilities more satisfying than Kirby's in the long run, since it actually feels like you're using your newly acquired techniques to adapt to what the game throws at you, unlike with Kirby where your new abilities, for the most part just help you kill things in different ways, with a few exceptions.

They're both wonderful series though and probably beyond comparing, I only wish one of them wasn't a corpse.
