I'm not really worried about that to be honest. There's a lot of examples of single player games with perfectly executed drop-in multiplayer feature.

BG&E1 only gets brought up whenever the SJW crowd wants to do their "games that we don't mind" bit, literally nobody else cares about it since it wasn't anything great, just a decent Zelda clone. If you see a specific group of people being the only ones to appreciate your game why would you not cater to them.

Ancel wanted three games. If he made BGE2 a proper sequel, left it on a cliffhanger AGAIN, and it flopped, people would be pissed. So instead, they're doing a prequel that's self-contained just in case and we'll get a resolution if it sells.

Literally the only problem I have with it is the over use of "fuck".

It's a fine line and they just barely tripped over it. Honestly, if they removed "Bang, bang, motherfuckers!" they would literally trip over the line back into acceptable territory. That one usage of it felt like it was not longer natural speech and was not just trying to drop the word as much as they could.

But the world looks incredible and fleshed out. The characters have personality and passion to them.
The visual design is oozing with style.

Now they just have to take those three things and add GOOD GAMEPLAY to it.

Hell there might even be a narrative reasoning for it, being a prequel and all, with the world being a giant ghetto before the government comes in and turns it into Demolition Man, but I don't see the writers going to that level, they just want to use the name for hype.

The tone of the trailer was jarringly different from the first game and frankly a little off-putting.
It's set so far back in time and place that I find it very hard to imagine they can make any connection to the first game that won't feel flimsy and tenuous at best.
