Depending on how it gets implemented it might be good though, the Switch controller lets you aim with the gyro, which should work well since the bullets you shoot and enemies have relatively big hitboxes so it's not like you need to perform precise headshots like in CS or anything.

Really? I think the exact opposite. It gives you the freedom to aim anywhere at any time and it seems like it'll actually add challenge to things like boss fights where you have to hit a specific area but the enemy is constantly moving. You can't just blind fire.

In the older ones, with only 8 direction, you would sometimes have to wait for enemies to move into an exact position to hit them, particularly if you were on a ledge and they were under you or they flew around or they climbed on walls, etc. Sure, upgrades that widened your shot beam changed that later in the game, but I'm sure there will be similar upgrades in this one.

In the manga, samus can lift a like M1 Abrams-size tank over her head with one hand, without the suit. The power suit is like W40K levels of stupid strong when you look at what it can do.

This new game doesn't replace Metroid II or AM2R. Metroid II is obviously the original game, it's a linear, atmospheric adventure where you invade an alien world and exterminate a dangerous species.

AM2R set out to be a faithful remake of Metroid II that tacked on a bunch of fanservice from other games in the series. They added the abilities from later games but didn't really redesigned the map layout to accomodate them. They added the Prime scan logs, but those logs were simply just for lore rather than being helpful hints for the game. The soundtrack was more like a fan remix album than a video game OST. It essentially tried to be an upgraded version of the original, succeeding in some aspects and failing in others.

The 3DS game seems to be similar to Zero Mission, in that it's a retelling of the original game. The plot and premise is the same, but the rest of the game differs a lot. For a start, Samus doesn't even start the game with any of her suit upgrades. She had to acquire her Morph Ball and Missiles during the Treehouse stream. They seem to be completely redesigning the map so that it follows a more non-linear structure and accomodates some of the upgrades that the series introduced later on (something AM2R didn't do). Whether they did a good job with the map redesign is yet to be seen, but the point is that it's not trying to be an upgraded version of the original like AM2R was. It's a different game following the same story.
