There's still hope. Currently there's still a pretty clear divide between the nurutu/shounenfags/tumblrinas and the rest of /a/, compared to most boards where the retards are often indistinguishable from the people who belong. The low-quality phoneposting is a site-wide thing and Mangafox images were always common, all you can do is tell them to fuck off.
/a/ has definitely been in a slow decline, but it's a much slower decline than the rest of the site.

I'm 24, lurked from 2009 until 2011, although that was mostly because I had other interests at the time and wasn't used to this format, in 2011 I started browsing daily.

I don't regret it, I know most people won't admit it but I learned a lot about vidya here, granted not because the in-depth discussion I got but because there were people usually giving sources and links whenever asked about something, that's how I learned about some old companies from the '80s-'90s and more recent niche as fuck games. In fact now that I think about it, I barely knew a thing or two about the whole industry before browsing /v/.

My earliest memories are the Castlevania threads on /v/ in 2011, is how I got into the series. I remember playing SC4 and Rondo and people giving very good advice in those threads, it was obviously before the /vr/ split.

You don't really need to be browsing this place since 2006 to realize that nowadays is full of newfags and morons that don't get it at all. Everyone who's here before 2014 should realize that quite easily. Early this year there were some threads about how impactful Street Fighter 2 really was in the '90s and the sheer ignorance and retardation there convinced me that I was already in the minority.

Also the recent 'lmao' spam at the end of every post really grind my gears. I don't know why that shit made a comeback.

I remember when I first came on here I though 4chan and /v/ was a bunch of super hackers that would dox you if you said the wrong thing or got on someone's nerves.

I remember my first post was about an experience on dark souls and someone found a similar post I had made on gamefaqs. Everyone thought it was so bad it must've been bait.

I don't go on gamefags anymore though or any other game forum since they all faggots.
