My idea was that Max should come back around the end of Season 2's third episode. With the assumption that time travel powers (the main gimmick that separates this from telltales stuff) are returning, the protagonist could have some small scenes with Max. Maybe he saves her due from dying and she pieces it together. Depending on your ending, she would tell you that her fucking with time got her whole town or her best friend killed.

i honestly hated the time traveling shit in terms of narrative, for gameplay puzzle purposes its ok although you literally teleport by moving time and space without moving yourself. but for the narrative, it just felt like a giant ass pull where the writers could make her time travel do anything they wanted, like do a dumb sad alt reality story, cause a tornado, force max to let chloe die, strain max and cause tension whenever, etc
