One of the developers said that Kratos's wife had a major role in the game. Maybe she is actually Artemise, goddess of hunting, since they clearly are hunters.

Kratos accidently kills own family, oracle of the village bounds his family's ashes to his skin. Pledges to serve other gods to help him with his nightmares.
