Both the Corrins are in Smash, Heroes, and Echoes, and both have amiibos (not even the Robins have this much parity). Popularity and merch isn't an argument for canon if you're going to use that. With the characters they showed off for Warriors, if Corrin wasn't female, it'd have been a total sausagefest save for the fem OC character.

If you think the male Corrin is completely cut from that when fucking KT is developing, you're delusional. Just hope they don't make you buy a season pass for it.

My theory is that it's because people were complaining that characters didn't have feet in Awakening, so they made the protagonist barefoot in Fates because LOOK FEET OKAY

Story/historical reasons:
Since technically Corrin was a child of Hoshido that was captured and raised in Nohr, he/she is considered a Ward. Typically to denote this, they didn't allow Wards to wear shoes. This is also why Azura is barefoot.
