It would mean spending a lot of time and resources on an engine that won't be better than unreal because unreal is fleshed out and incredibly mature. It's the same as why consoles aren't developed in-house and instead are just off-the-shelf SoCs/APUs

IDTech 6 is better, but nobody is using it due to high system requirements. Even IDTech isn't using it for Quake Champions, because they want Esports shitters with toasters to play it. I don't think it can even run on Switch.
